Question about 2001 Harley Davidson FXDL Dyna Low Rider

1 Answer

There is some sort of short happening. Battery is hot and good, but will not turn on or start. Starts once then goes dead. No sound, click, or anything. Appears power is not reaching the starter. Is there a fuse box on this bike and if so where is it located? 2001 HD Dyna Low rider

04 model starts ok battery charge light appears then ABS malfunction I drive short distance turn engine off when I turn on just clicks I can try again and starts no bother then same thing happens

Your battery charging system is defective, the battery is going dead and that is the cause of the other issue like the ABS light. Get the charging system diagnosed.

Why wont it start when engine at normal temp

get OBD codes read as could be a sensor acting up when hot , could be the starter solenoid is overheating ,have the battery checked for holding charge as may not be as good as you think and takes a while to recover once not recieving charge, one of these three things is most likely

Battery keep going dead

If the battery is dead after starting then you have a short in the starting system. If it only starts when you jump it, and I'm assuming your using a car to do this, then it sounds like the starter is using an unusual amount of current to start and is defective. A shorted starter will drain a battery instantly, but make sure the positive cable is not shorted to the frame anywhere first.

When my bike gets hot the battery goes dead when it cools off it starts again?

I really don't think your battery is going dead, sounds to me more like your coil is going out. Usually when they start going out they tend to work fine until the get hot, quit working and start working again once they cool off. I hope this helps you.

Clicking sound when trying to start and no start (sometimes). I think it sounds like the starter is clicking. it is a lot like when the battery is going dead and does not supply enough power to engage...

Everything you are describing leads me to believe the battery is the culprit. Not enough storage in it after it sets, when it does start the alternator has to work at max to recover from the start making it idle rough, and the fact that it starts good warm tells me that you definitely need a battery. You can confirm this by boosting the truck the next time it starts "just clicking",if it goes with a boost then you will know for sure that the battery is done in.

Once in a while car dies while trying to start

Several things. Take the car to Autozone or Oreillys for a free scan. Before you go, check the starter and starter cables under the car. Have them check starter draw. Have them check the battery and alternator.

It sounds like the alternator is not quite filtering out the electric pulses it creates when working. The starter can ground out but usually not after you are moving.

If the gauges do not indicate anything, do a wiggle test to see if you can find the short.

98 Accord DX clicks once when key is turned, eventually starts

Check battery terminals and make sure they are free of corrosion and are tightly secure on battery. If all is good it may be the stater that's sticking. or maybe clutch safety switch on clutch pedal is going bad. Good Luck contact me if you need more help
