Turn it all the way down, then one screw up, start the bike and turn up the screw, or back until you get the best idle

I agree ,I think you have a crankcase breather problem.Check the air cleaner tube that runs to the top of the motor , the vent in the head, and where the breather enters the air box is all clear.

You merely locate its position and diconnect the wires-usually located on the front of the bike.

Iv a problem with my 91 suzuki dr 650 as i thought it was the starter clutch i fitted a new 1,fly wheel isnt turning still,and it isnt maken that propor turn over noise i pulled off the altenator cover...

Exploded views of the offending parts are here in each segment of the bike. See: Starter clutch, Starter motor, Crankcase, Crank balancer, Magneto.
There are several things turning as a result of the crank. Balancers and idlers all hide in there.
