The engine got wet wont start, why? Where to start looking?

First check the air filter to make sure you didn't suck water into the filter.

Engine wont run after warm up and no choke

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel cap or fuel tank is not venting properly.
2. Fuel filter clogged.
3. Fuel line pinched or kinked.
4. Float needle and seat sticking.
5. Float level too low.
6. Carburetor bowl vent line clogged/blocked/pinched.
7. Idle adjusting screw set too low.
8. Air/fuel mixture screw set too lean.
9. Idle port, transfer ports, slow air jet clogged.
10. Slow fuel jet clogged.
11. Faulty fuel pump.

I need step by step instructions on replacing a fuel filter in a 1998 gmc 6.5 turbo diesel please

I got this from Haynes Diesel Engine Repair Manual. I bought it for my 6.2.
1. Remove the fuel filler cap and air cleaner assembly.
2. On filters without an air bleed screw, place a rag under the filter to soak up fuel and detach the lower clip FIRST to release pressure and then the top clip. They pop off with a screwdriver.
3. On filters with an air bleed screw (top passenger side) drain fuel from the filter by opening the screw first and the engine water drain valve (engine front near thermostat) if it has one. Detach the clips and remove filter.
4.Make sure the seating surface is clean and place new filter in position. On non-air bleed filters put the upper clip on FIRST. On air bleed filters secure both clips, then close the valve and attach a piece of hose to the bleed port into a pail.
5. Air must be purged BEFORE start up, so disconnect the pink wire from the top of the injector pump and crank the engine in 10 second cycles with a 30 second wait time until clear bubble-free fuel comes out the lower fitting or air bleed. Connect the lower clip on the non-air bleed , close the bleed hose and reconnect the pink wire.
6. Start the engine and let it idle for several minutes to purge any remaining air and check for leaks.
Hope this helps.

Will it start? Does it start and the die? The first question I ask myself regards gas. How old is it? Really old gas will cause problems. Is there a chance water (sprinklers, rain) has gotten into the tank? Just a little water in the fuel will cause failure. Next question I ask regards fuel filter. Have you ever changed or cleaned it? You didn't mention air filter. Is it clean? If all this checks out, check the several kill relays, especially the one under the seat if your tractor has one. Do you have a spark arrester on your engine? If this becomes sooted up, your engine will not run. Have you examined all wiring? Rats can play hell there. Good luck.

Recently the carpet behind the driver's seat has been soaked after a rain. It doesn't matter if the car is moving or parked, if the heat is on or not. The water seems to be coming out the vent under the...

This would be water from the heating unit beneath the seat. Somehow this has gotten damaged. Consequently engine cooling system water now is leaking onto the floor and into the carpet. You mave have to remove the seat entirely, or it may be possible to access the heater and remove it for repair, without removing the seat.

Step by step air filter replacement?

Remove seat, two bolts at rear...
unscrew wing bolt located in the middle of the air filter element
remove filter, and clean the mating area in the air box (WD-40 works well) Make sure not to get any dirt in here!!!
Remove the inner air filter cage, Clean the air filter (Stock ones are foam) I use kerosene or gas, but be careful, wash it then with soapy water and let it dry completely.
Use a foam filter oil, either spray on or in a bottle, and make sure it's covered completely, and tacky, not soaked. (I use Bel-Ray foam filter oil) Replace the air filter cage
Put a small bead of grease on the filter where it mates to the air box, this helps it seal.
Re-install air filter and seat, I use a little bit of lock-tite on the seat bolts, as they vibrate out.

How do I get back seat out?

I removed the back seat bottom in my 2001 Buick Century this afternoon. I did so by pushing the bacl on the seat bottom and then pushing up at the same time. It then came loose. With it out I looked at the two spots where it was held down. In hindsight, may have come loose if I had just pulled up on the front of it, but not sure of that. By the way, I had to remove all my seats in order to remove my carpet which had gotten incredibly soaked with water from recent rains. I believe the water came in thru the passenger compartment air filter which is on the r/s in front of the windshield. There is a weahterstrip along the base of the windshield that I believe came loose. I'll know for sure in a few days. In the meantime I am riding with only a drivers seat in the car.
