I have a 2014 KLX450r and have changed rear sprocket to a 54, problem is I cannot realign the rear chain guide to suit. What do I do?


54 is a lot of sprocket, I would go for a 52. If your guide doesn't work than try to find an aftermarket part or build on yourself. Don't run without it, when your chain loosens up it can fall off and get jammed into you front gear/sprocket.

How do you adjust chain


Flip bicycle up-side-down so it sits on the seat and handlebars. Loosen the 2 nuts that hold the rear wheel on. Sitting behind the bike on the ground, so that you can align the wheel to a straight position, pull the wheel back so that the chain is snug. You don't need to pull hard, just hold the wheel in place and straight. Using the other hand, slowly tighten the axle nuts back down until the wheel is held in place. Once the nuts are tight enough to securely hold the wheel, tighten the nuts. Sometimes this method will make the chain too tight. If this happens, repeat the process as above, only this time when you go to tighten the nuts back down, squeeze the chain slightly to create a bit of slack. Ideally, the chain will be tight enough not to skip or slip, and at the same time, loose enough not to make noise, bind up, or do any damage.

There are "chain tensioners" available that hook around the rear dropouts of the frame and also around the axle, allowing you to tighten the chain to exact specs. simply by tightening or loosening adjuster screws. They will also help to keep things from loosening up over time. These make things much easier and I highly suggest looking into them.

Use any of a variety of oils and lubes available, but try to avoid WD-40 for chain lube. It will stop a squeak for now and make things seem to move smoother, but in the long run, WD-40 will attract dirt and debris to the constantly moving parts of your chain and can shorten the life of a chain considerably. Regardless of what gear it's in, my Zike Saber chain slips as I step on the pedals. How do I solve this?


the saber zike is a elliptical bicycle. All answers above think you have a motorcycle or they have no clue. Is the chain on the sprocket, It seems to be off the gear. Zike recomends switching 1 gear at a time. Do not go from 7th to first gear in one shift or chain will come off the gear .It happened to me .Chain id not easy to put back on as a bike, that you can turn upside down and have it support itself on the seat and handlebars. The saber you must hold the back wheel off the ground and try somehow to turn the peddle backwards. I am not sure how to make an elliptical chain go backwards like a bike does without resistance.

Chain needs to be 1/4 inch play adjusted that then sit on bike and chain seems to tight its sounds like its grinding do i adjust chain when sitting on it when its tight or with no weight


1/4" is too tight, you should have one inch minimum. Check it while the bike is upright sitting on the tires. Move the longest part of the chain up and down and you should have one to one and a half inches of play.

As a comparison, my BMW 650 has seven inches of suspension travel at the rear and my spec is 45 to 55mm which is about an inch and 3/4 to two inches.

Do check if not drain and refill the gear box, but check with your dealer that it will not affect your warranty. a little self help may prevent time consuming and inconvenient repairs at this stage, but remember gears are clunky and come in for a lot of abuse, reliable as they are.

if the timing chain is off i dont think it would run, id suggest getting you're cams checked and reseat your valves, i have the same bike and an electronic copy of a repair manual, not for the exact same bike however. i have not been able to find the correct copy.

I know this is a maintenance question but I'm looking for a little local information. I went to clean my chain yesterday and noticed that it's way too long. There's a bit of kinking too so it's time to get a new chain. The chain maintenance info on this board seems pretty detailed and doesn't look too hard (lol perhaps I should mention that I'm a noobie and haven't worked on my bike much yet). Should I attempt this on my own? Any suggestions where in TO I should get the chain and tools? Or should I take the bike to Rev Cycle (any rough estimates on price)?,Depending on your skill and comfort level you can probably tackle this job OK, here are some rules (I'm making up early Saturday morning without the benefit of coffee) Buy the best quality chain you can buy, (x or o ring) If the chain is screwed chances are your sprockets are too (yeah I know $$$) It's a good time to go up in the rear or down in the front (sprocket teeth, don't do both) if your bike has a single swing arm forget it (tools stands etc too much hassle adjusting probably not worth it just take it too the dealer unless your very determined and are investing in the tools and time etc) otherwise no biggee. Now so your chain lasts don't over adjust, unsprung the chain will appear loose get some else to sit on the bike as you check the chain tension all the way through the suspension travel check chain and sprocket alignment (laser, eye ball whatever) sometimes shims or other pieces go missing (especially when chain have kinks or wear prematurely) chain wax is your friend, lube it hot and use a clean rag to get excess and clean sprockets.,,,
