SOURCE: Need to adjust timing chain on a 1980 KZ440 Kawasaki motorcycle

Ok ,under the carbs there is an adjustment tha can be made. It stands out about 2 in. just below and centers the carbs. It has a bolt head that you can turn to change the tention. If this does not fix the problem then you need to remove the valve cover and check the guides and top tesioner slide for wear. Hope this helps

SOURCE: how to tighten drive chain kawasaki ninja zx1100

Assuming its the same as a 900.
loosen the 2 allen bolts at the rear of the swing arm. loosen the brake lock bolt,so the caliper can slide as well.
Turn the large cams that the axle bolts through to move the wheel back or forward., make sure the adjustment marks line up the same.
It can help to loosen the axle nut first, if you are having trouble getting the left and right adjustments the same.
dont forget to tighten everything up again and replace the axle circlip,

SOURCE: I hear a clunking fron

Get the rear wheel off the ground and adjust the chain tension. When checking the tension spin the rear wheel and check that the tension does not go slack or get tighter. If the chain is riding up and down the sprocket teeth then the chain is stretched and needs to be replaced. This is the grinding/clunking noise you are hearing. If the sprockets are worn consider a chain and sprocket set, it can be a less expensive option than buying the parts separately.

I have a 95 Kawasaki Vulcan 800. My chain loose in some spots and then it becomes tight with less then an inch of slack in it. How do I adjust this to make it right.

this indicates the sprocket teeth are worn and the pitch for the chain and the sprocket teeth are no longer compatible .or the chain is worn and stretched causing the same problem
check the teeth of the sprocket and if they look like triangles then replace the sprockets
they should look like small teeth that are fatter at the middle , ten slope off to the point

Its possible your tensioner is worn out , this could be detrimental to your engine.
Best advise would be order new unit from Cradleys Kawasaki UK and get a qualified bike mechanic to fit.
