Question about 2003 Honda VT 750 CD Shadow A.C.E. Deluxe

1 Answer

Frusterated I went to get on my bike and the lights on the tank come on yet don't start don't even dim when pressing the start button. the kill switch is on. I have had issue from time to time and would forcefully put kickstand down. and would fire up. I bought new kickstand switch but still no luck. I am getting 12.5VDC from battery and both my pushbutton and killswitch metered good on continuity..trying to find out what I should read on spades of starter relay. I have 12VDC coming in but only 2 spades have 12 coming out. I jumped starter to battery and bike started. HELP

due you get 12 volts on the yellow with red wire at the starter relay when you hit start switch also due you have 12 volts on red/white wire with kill switch on or off need both conditions for starter to engage

SOURCE: 1998 Honda Goldwing will not start nothing.

Sort of sounds like a Twilight Zone kind of problem doesn't it. I would have the battery checked for an internal dead short. This is something that happens on odd occasions and can happen even to a new battery. Yea, the little lights will work ( they do not draw much juice ), but the starter motor draws a lot of juice and a shorted battery just ain't got it. Also check the wiring harness connections. One loose connection can cause bunches of trouble.

You either have a broken/disconnected wire or you have a bad starter button. The starter button is a two position switch. Push it in half way and the headlight turns off. Push it in all the way and the solenoid engages the starter. The button is either dirty or broken.

Why wont my r6 start?

Just because the wires are still connected, doesn't mean they are intact or that the switches they are connected to are working. If the bike does nothing, it would indicate that the problem is most likely with the Kill switch. Check all the wiring in that region and make sure the switch still works.

I have a 2006 Suzuki GS500F the bike ran fine and started fine for 2 weeks after i bought it used, and it started fine all day until the bike wouldn't even try to start. I thought the battery was dead so i...

Hi, I would still suspect the battery. Lights and ignition do not really draw much current neither does the bike when running.. Your battery goes almost flat when the starter is engaged lots of amps are required. Try this check: remove the battery (undo negative lead first please) then connect a high wattage bulb across the terminals see how long it takes for the bulb to dim. If the bulb is still bright after an hour re charge the battery (please use a dedicated bike charger max output 1 amp). Re-fit the battery (connect positive lead first please). If bike still does not start check starter solenoid is activating it should click when you press the start button. Hope this helps.

You will likely have to replace kill switch, it is not designed to stop bike on a regular basis, only in an emergency

Starting fault

There are two safety switches that you may need to test. 1) Neutral safety switch- this switch is what tells the bike that it's in neutral and allows the starter to engage. 2) Kickstand safety switch- this switch will not allow the bike to run in gear if the kickstand is down. My initial guess is the neutral safety switch. If the neutral safety switch is bad, then you will not be able to start the bike with the kickstand down because the bike thinks that it's in gear (even if in neutral). This also may explain why the initial intermitent problem of not starting when warm since the metal contacts will expand and possibly not make contact when warmed up. Are you trying to start the bike with the kickstand up or down? If it were the kickstand safety switch, the bike would probably start okay and then die when you put it in gear.
