Sounds like the clutch release is not seating smoothly and fully. Operate the release very slowly (preferably out of gear while static or can you put it in 6th while its off? and see if there's any stiction in the clutch release mechanism.Maybe the clearance changes in 6th gear but i cant see why it should.

Testimonial: "thank you is a start... I also discovered when I was changing the cable that the two washers and the bearing in the clutch pushrod package were bad actually the bearing was destroyed.. all of that was replaced.. and it did it again today.. do you think the clutch spring plate might be bad even thou it looks fine"

It could be. How are you adjusting the clutch rod in the primary? Loosen the jam nut and screw in till it bottoms out, then loosen one full turn and lock the jam nut. Then you'll need to adjust your clutch cable. Make sure that you don't take all of the slack out of the cable. There should be room enough between the clutch lever and clutch perch to fit a nickel between the two when it is adjusted correctly. If the clutch lever has no "slop or play" in it,then the cable is too tight.

Well, the compensator should not be making noises so you might be well advised to look further into that. Give some history of the clutch problem. Vibrates in 6th gear the minute I hit 70 mph

Hi Jackie, and the usual suspects are:
1. Wheels and or tires unbalanced, worn or damaged.
2. Engine/transmission/vehicle not aligned properly.
3. Primary chain badly worn or links tight as a result of insufficient lubrication or misalignment.
4. Engine to transmission mounting bolts loose.
5. Upper engine mounting bracket loose.
6. Ignition timing incorrect/poorly tuned engine
7. Internal engine problem/ flywheel shift
8. Broken frame
Good luck

Bike died going 75 mph and will not start. Has not fire

The owners manual for my 2008 Road King Classic says to down shift from 6th to 5th at about 60 MPH, not 75 MPH.

Chances are either the nut on the compensating sprocket is loose or the primary chain is loose.

Hi Anonymous, you could have a clutch or transmission issue try a clutch adjustment first then call, take a ride or trailer your bike over to your local dealers service/parts department, I'm sure they will be happy to take your Harley Davidson for a test ride if necessary/possible and offer professional advice and assistance concerning your issue. 1997 Yamaha YZF 1000 clutch and/or transmission problem?

well this is something that is as you said " not normal" i would guess that clutch is smoked. after it warms up do a 3rd gear roll on at about 45 mph. if you drop the hammer and the motor revs and you don't go anywhere stop the ride and R&R your clutch
something else to make sure of is that you clutch fuild is good and has no air in the line
Good luck

On two seperate occassions, my 1988 HD FXRS seemed to lose power suddenly on the freeway - It went from 70 mph to 15 mph without shifting down from fifth. I attempted shifting through all gears but nothing...

The latter part sounds like insufficient play on the clutch lever--the clutch seems to be slipping. Sudden power loss is usually linked to the ignition system. Have you checked the lube level in the transmission? You could be having a bearing seizure if the lube is low.

97 fatboy starter engages but will not stay engaged.

I would check the starter clutch its self first. It is a one way clutch so if you remove the starter and disassemble it to the starter clutch and hold the starter clutch in one hand and use your other hand to turn the starter clutch gear, it should only turn in one direction.
