Dude (or dude-ett) you've got a short some where.

Start by looking for the last 'new' accessory that was added.
Running light, new directional s, alarm system etc

Also, to find out where it might be, try pulling one fuse at a time.
Key off...Put a meter on the battery, it must clipped on, so you can instantly see a change, it me just a few milli-volts.

Or the battery is getting over-charged.

With the bike running, check the voltage at the battery with a meter. It should be around 13.5 volts, check you specs book or the correct voltage.

Why won't my Pride Go-Go Elite Traveller batteries charge using a trickle charger? The batteries are new, but my charger quit working.

Hi Robert , can you clarify what you mean by a trickle charger ?, any chance of a photo of the charger ?

using a standard gel battery charger , the charger will charge the batteries in question and once fully charged, the charger will trickle charge the batteries.. This is a standard operation and recommended by battery makers...

Rob

I plug charger in and nothing happens no lights or anything

got the same problem the gel cells drain to a level that is too low for the charger. A suggested fix I have seen is to jumper a car battery across the gel cell to fool the charger so it will go into charge mode.
I have not tried this my self yet as I have to remove the chair to get to the batteries on my father in laws ride on chair. The nursing home took the chair off him and left it in a shed without it being on float charge for over 6 months and now I can't charge the chair up.

How many AMPS should the Charger be for a Jazzy Select Power Chair

3A should be fine. Pride uses 3A for other models with two U1 batteries. Make sure they're wheelchair batteries: gel or AGM. Not car batteries.

Battery issues????

I would recommend having the battery tested to see if you don't have a dead cell or something. Also, if you filled the battery with distilled water, it is not a gel cell, or a maintenance free battery. The life of these "maintenance" batteries are typically 1 year, and would be best to replace every season. Furthermore, to extend the life of your battery, I strongly suggest getting a BATTERY MAINTAINER from either your local parts store, harbor freight tools, or motorcycle shop. These are not very expensive, and usually run about $40.00-$60.00. Much cheaper than replacing batteries all the time. I have a gel-cell that I run in my 1989 Yamaha Virago, and using the maintainer, it's going on the 3rd year in the bike. My battery stays so hot, that I can jump other bikes with ease. Hope this helps.

I bought an MPV5 used. Batteries won't charge. Charger light is green after 24 hours...slight power surge then dies. The seller said it hadn't been plugged in for a long time. I also noticed the batteries...

Lets solve this, one question at a time ....
First your batteries are not charging,This may be because of it siting for too long without a charge. The batteries may be so dead that your charger cannot reconize them. dont losse hope there are ways to check your batteries and charger with out spending alot of money on a tech coming over.
1) Unplug and remove your batteries from the chair
2) Find your self a charge that trickle charge
(Note: If you have a batterie charger ,trickle charge is the lowest set charge)
3) Trickle charge each batterie to about 50%
4) Install batteries back on to chair
5) Plug in chair charger
The chairs charger should come on ,and that right there tells you that you have a good charger!
The batteries that came with this chair are not bad and are considered ok to use .These type of batteries are what you call maintenance batteries ,which your always having to check if the leaking or need water. The gell type batteries are what they call non-maintenance.That you dont have to always look after but are more money.Thats why they recommend the gells so that the user doesn't have to work on there chair.

I hope that was helpful ,Happy Riding

I think my battery is dead. Do I try to charge it

To charge battery, use a trickle charger at 2 amp. Batteries usually only last about 3 years, so if battery is at that age it probably needs replaced. (Replaced my battery with a lawn mower battery that matched the original battery size.) I would try to get a charge on the battery before replacing it. Replacing the battery could be expensive. Battery could also be low on zinc, water, or acid.

My quickie aspire wont turn on

3 months is too long for gel batteries to sit off-charge, without being fully charged first, then disconnected before storage.

Your charger is trying to charge, but the batteries aren't cooperating. This chair accepts either the Group 22 or Group 24 gel-sealed batteries. 22 are about 50 amphour, and 24 are about 74 amphour, and will give you greater range. Cost for a set of two of either is going to be about $350 and $450 respectively. Ouch!
