ya it shifts in fouth fith and sixth just fine and it even holds when you down shift to third, i have heard that the enguagement between the dogs in third is only 2 mm and that if they get just a little warn it fails. fo fix it you either space that gear in a little further or change it all togather. I was thinking about putting a e series box in it because there suposed to be stronger boxes but not sure if it would fit.

Tommy, i dont recall that being a common problem with that bike, if you bought the bike used the last owner may have been speed shifting it some call it power shifting, you may have to have cases split in order to fix problem. when you say slips out can you still up shift to next gear.

tommy im not sure that e sries box would fit because kawasaki was always improving on their bikes if it was me i would replace the original and shim it my buddy has sam bike with alittle over 26,000miles on it and tranny still holdn strong but it does seem to me that the e series was a bit diffrent. wish i could be more help i will check on it thought but i really dont think the e series will work.

Can anyone tell me if the 98 Ford Explorer transmission first gear and reverse share the same band??

I'm showing three bands in the parts book, overdrive, intermediate, and reverse. Nothing listed for first gear.
I can't say for certain first does not use the reverse band, but it is not listed that way in the book.

2005 tahoe transmission slipping in 3rd gear after runnig awhile, told it needs to be rebuilt @1235.00 plus parts does it sound like a cur.

Third gear is the weak spot in this transmission and slipping in third is a common failure. This is the most common transmission on the market and anyone that can not give you a flat price on the repair with a good warranty is taking advantage of you.We do these all day long with a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty for 1750.00 plus tax.I think the dealer will install a reman unit for less that 2500 with a 5 year 100000 mile warranty.Dont fall for a plus parts game.Either a flat price or drive to the next shop.Avoid the chain transmission shops, they have high overhead and usually dont do as good of a job as a mom and pop that has been in business for 20 plus years.By the way the indipendant shops can give you just as good of a nationwide warranty as the chain shops can.

The car shift in first and second gear but slip in third is this problem common in probe?

I have a 1989 Probe GT, 2.2L, 5spd, Turbo.

If its one thing I have learned about the Probes is that they are amazing cars until something needs fixing.

--Is the car an automatic or manual trans?
--What engine is in it (if you know)? If not what size is it
(ex. 2.2L, 4cyl / 3.0 V-6)

If its an automatic it could be a number of problems. If its manual the most likely causes are bent or broken shift linkage, or third gear is shot.

Is it only 3rd gear that it pops out of, or anything past second?

does the shifter feel normal??? the cables are a common problem. if it feels like it goes into gear but slips out, the trans may be bad, but verify the cables first.

98 ram 1500 4x4, all work with the exception of third gear shift just after shifting into second, no OD problems or slipping. 120,000 one owner miles. would like to fix this problem without creating any...

in your transmission you have a shift solinoid that is probably sticking, when and if you replace it, also have the bands adjusted (every 12000 miles or the next transmission flush)
