Engine is misfiring

There are few possibilities that can cause engine misfire issues. It can be issue with spark plugs or faulty spark plugs. Also get the compression test done for cylinders. If any of cylinder shows low compression then required, then that particular cylinder will cause misfire.

Also get obd codes scanned, the error code will let you know which cylinder is misfiring or all cylinders are misfiring.

While driving or idling when motor hits 3000 rpm's exactly it cuts out.

Hi,

DO NOT replace any more compoents until you have checked your vehicle's OBD computer for fault codes.

1) Run engine until it reaches operating temperature. Turn off engine.

2) Locate the 2-pin connector (BLUE I think it is) under the passenger dashboard, or behind passenger kick panel - this connector could also be mounted into an unused socket ( DO NOT use the 3-pin connector). Using a suitable jumper wire, short these 2 pins together.

3) Turn ignition to ON (but do not start)

4) The Check Engine light will flash the appropriate codes - long flash represents the 1st digit of the code, short flashes represent the 2nd digit of the code, followed by a long pause between codes. e.g. LONG, LONG, SHORT, SHORT, SHORT (long pause) = Code 23 etc.

These are the Honda codes and their meanings:

Code 0 Electronic Control Module (ECM)
Code1 Heated oxygen sensor A
Code 2 Oxygen content B
Code 3 and 5 Manifold Absolute Pressure
Code 4 Crank position sensor
Code 6 Engine coolant temperature
Code 7 Throttle position sensor
Code 8 Top dead center sensor
Code 9 No.1 cylinder position sensor
Code 10 Intake air temperature sensor
Code 11 Electronic Control Module (ECM)
Code 12 Exhaust recirculation system
Code 13 Barometric pressure sensor
Code 14 Idle air control valve or bad ECM
Code 15 Ignition output signal
Code 16 Fuel Injector
Code 17 Vehicle speed sensor
Code 19 A/T lock-up control solenoid
Code 20 Electric load detector
Code 21 V-TEC control solenoid
Code 22 V-TEC pressure solenoid
Code 23 Knock sensor
Code 30 A/T FI signal A
Code 30 A/T FI signal B
Code 41 Heated oxygen sensor heater
Code 43 Fuel supply system
Code 45 Fuel supply metering
Code 48 Heated oxygen sensor
Code 61 Front heated oxygen sensor
Code 63 Rear heated oxygen sensor
Code 65 Rear heated oxygen sensor heater
Code 67 Catalytic converter system
Code 70 Automatic transaxle
Code 71 Misfire detected cylinder 1
Code 72 Misfire detected cylinder 2
Code 73 Misfire detected cylinder 3
Code 74 Misfire detected cylinder 4
Code 75 Misfire detected cylinder 5
Code 76 Misfire detected cylinder 6
Code 80 Exhaust recirculation system
Code 86 Coolant temperature
Code 92 Evaporative emission control system

Hope this helps........

After going over 40mph the check engine light goes on n it gives the code 440

How did you read that code on your car? A 92 Accord is supposed to give you pre-OBD honda codes, which are all below 100. Please check the code again and re-post it.

Misfiring until warmed up

One thing I noticed right away is you say full choke for 6 miles, WOW, that might be your cause, one of the spark plugs is gas-fouled. Change out the plugs, let the bike warm up some before you drive it so you don't have to use the choke/enrichener knob as much as you do. Let me know how that works out. BTW, I warm up my carburated HD until no choke is needed before I ride away, it can and does take some time.

Need to know what color the wires are on the connector that you jump to read codes on my 1992 honda accord

"To located the codes that are stored in the ECM pull back the carpet on the passenger side floor pan. Turn the key in the ignition to on, not accessory but on but don't start the car. you should see an LED light flashing on the ECM below the dash on the passenger side where you pulled back the carpet. If there are any codes stored. A long flash equals 10. A short flash equals 1. So if you get 4 long flashes that would equal 40.Three short flashes would equal 3. Four long flashes + three short flashes = code 43. you may have multiple codes stored in the ECM and will repeat themselves over and over, the will be a pause in between codes. Here is a listing of the codes: Code 0 and 11 Electronic Control Module (ECM)Code1 Heated oxygen sensor ACode 2 Oxygen content BCode 3 and 5 Manifold Absolute PressureCode 4 Crank position sensorCode 6 Engine coolant temperatureCode 7 Throttle position sensorCode 8 Top dead center sensorCode 9 No.1 cylinder position sensorCode 10 Intake air temperature sensorCode 12 Exhaust recirculation systemCode 13 Barometric pressure sensorCode 14 Idle air control valve or bad ECMCode 15 Ignition output signalCode 16 Fuel InjectorCode 17 Vehicle speed sensorCode 19 A/T lock-up control solenoidCode 20 Electric load detectorCode 21 V-TEC control solenoidCode 22 V-TEC pressure solenoidCode 23 Knock sensorCode 30 A/T FI signal ACode 30 A/T FI signal BCode 41 Heated oxygen sensor heaterCode 43 Fuel supply systemCode 45 Fuel supply meteringCode 48 Heated oxygen sensorCode 61 Front heated oxygen sensorCode 63 Rear heated oxygen sensorCode 65 Rear heated oxygen sensor heaterCode 67 Catalytic converter systemCode 70 Automatic transaxleCode 71 Misfire detected cylinder 1Code 72 Misfire detected cylinder 2Code 73 Misfire detected cylinder 3Code 74 Misfire detected cylinder 4Code 75 Misfire detected cylinder 5Code 76 Misfire detected cylinder 6Code 80 Exhaust recirculation systemCode 86 Coolant temperatureCode 92 Evaporative emission control system" Actually the 92+ Accords did not have the little window on the ECU. You will need to locate the plug beneath the center console, where your right shin would be while driving. It is a two wire connector, you need to place a jumper wire from one side to the next, turn the key to "run" or "on" not start it...then count flashes of the engine light on the dash as mentioned above. Codes remain the same.
