SOURCE: How to check my oil level on 04 Yamaha yzf 600

YZF600R is a carbureted model. OIL: The oil sight glass is a round window, low on the right side. Very hard to try to see when astride the bike, even if you use a mirror on an extension rod. Have a friend hold the bike level, perhaps, while you check. Oil should be sighted after the bike has been sitting for a time after riding. I suggest using a good 10W-40 regular motorcycle oil (Least expensive around here in Boston is to buy Kawasaki by the gallon at Riverside) I found the pesky 1st-to-2nd shift to be more direct with this oil than with synthetic. I had plenty of opportunity to compare the two types. GAS: No reserve, but as noted, there is a low fuel light, in the row of lights that includes the neutral light and the high beam indicator. You ought to be getting over 50 m.p.g., so you can estimate your 'range' from that. I usually fill up again around the 180 mile period. I think I've seen the low fuel light once in 6 years of ownership. OH: I suggest you treat the gas, on a regular basis, with 'marine' Stabil, not the regular stuff. I have had a 'gummy' Yamaha Virago 250 to care for, that I thought would never clear its fuel problems. Last winter ('08-'09) stored it with the marine Stabil in the tank and run for a while to get it into the carbs also. Within a few minutes of running it this spring-actually a couple weeks ago- it smoothed out and has run fine since. I believe this HAS to be as a result of the treatment of the fuel (run through the carbs before the winter storage) with this special Stabil. It was recommended by Carlo at Riverside- I'll have to remember to thank him for the advice. N.B. I always change the fuel (siphon it out, put that Stabil'ed but 'old' stuff into my car tank, refill the bikes with fresh 93 octane) each Spring.

Do not start it again!!! Could you have possibly put too much oil? It needs to go to a shop ASAP. Hopefully it is still under warranty.

I have oil in my carbs

Does it blow. lot of air out of the oil filler cap if you take it off while its ticking over ?.if so t will be a cracked liner it's very common and I had one like that a few weeks ago.The cylinder liners crack and the burning gases whizz past it into the crankcase and then it pumps the burnt gases up the engine breather hose not the author.bad design fault that usually happens between 20'000 and 30'000 miles.

The oil fill on your bike is on the right side of the engine next to where your RIGHT foot is while sitting on your bike.

99 vulcan 1500 I think I over filled with oil. I have ridden about 500 miles and now it seems to be throwing some oil. After about 30 miles or so oil shows up on rightside saddle bag and some on rear...

Hi the thing to do is wash your bike off remove bags and stuff that you can, then take it for a short ride and just look for the area where it is leaking.try not to ride it to fast because oil on a hot motor will blow all over making it hard to determin where it is coming from.

How do I adjust the idle speed on my 96 thundercat. I read that this model should be above 1000rpm nearer 1200rpm.. Currently just above 750 rpm and bike not happy at this.. Everything else seeming fine...

As you sit on the bike you will find on the right hand side there is a black wheel the size of a 5p piece which is just above the crankcase. You can get your fingers in between the fairing without having to remove any plastics(which is a bit of a pain on this bike!(just forward of the oil filler cap).Once the engine is good and warm(about 5 mins) rotate it clockwise(I think) and it will increase your idle speed to just under 1200 rpm which is just about right. The "wheel" is attached to the carbs by a cable. Good luck. Ollie

How much oil does a yamaha yzf r1 2007 take

"most" bikes on average without filter change take anywhere from 2.8 to 3.0 qts. I always purchase 4 quarts because an extra one will always come in handy in the future anyway. First your bike i believe has a sight gauge... First stand the bike upright on a stand or have someone hold it up for you pour in 2 and 1/2 quarts, put fill cap on, start bike, let warm up for about a minute to let the oil settle, then turn off and then start pouring in slowly till it gets to a little above 3/4 full on the sight never want to overfill it could cause engine damage. Now just remember how much oil you put in and that is the approx. amount.

Where is th dipstick on my yam r1

i dont believe it has a dip stick. it should have a circular sight gauge i believe on the aft right side of the engine. there should be a black plastic cap on top that you unscrew to add in the oil...but remember only fill it up 3/4 of the way, if you overfill a bike that could damage the engine. And always check the level on any bike with it standing up not on the kickstand. Can i get a very helpful thanks
