This could be really bad or really easy. first, lets hope its vapor lock. take your spark plug out and see if it will turn. if yes, kick it a few times and replace spark plug. if not then we need to see if the kickstarts malfunctioning or the motors lock. put the bike in about third gear, grab the clutch and pull it in, now run beside and push the bike with the clutch in, get some speed and dump the clutch. Hopefully the engine will start turning over, in fact if you have the switchs on you can start the bike this way. If the engine does not turn over like that then you have a drivetrain problem, without seeing the bike theres no way to pinpoint it. Lets just hope the steps above work and you dont have any major problems, good luck.

My kickstarter gets stuck on my 1985 honda xl350r, when i put bike in gear and pull backwards it releases the kickstarter but when i try to kick it gets stuck after 1 or few kicks any ideas?

Very cool!
This bike is 30 years old.
There will be worn parts.
My suggestion...........

Dismantle the kickstart components, and check every part as you do so, looking for worn gears, sloppy bushings, and binding parts.

Fix the bits, put it back together, and ride on.

Cheerfuls!

Why doesn't my 1992 honda cr250 kickstart? No movement is it seized up

have you tried putting the engine in 6th gear then pull the cutch in and try and bump start JUST to see if the engine rotates ? if yes it rotates then the kickstart mec has locked and you need to remove the clutch case and investigate ! if no then drain water and remove the cyl head and barrel to see if its damaged , could even be the crank bearings ! how exactly did this happen , did it stop while riding or was the bike not used for a while ?? get back with any more info and it give me more idears of how to help ! cheers

1974 suzuki ts 185 when you kick the kickstarter the front sprocket moves but the piston doesnt

i presume the bike must be in gear to move the front sprocket. does the piston move if try and bump it in gear..if not.the piston has somehow seperated from the krank, need a visual inspection, head needs to come of, possible more. if it does then need to look at kickstart mechanism

New bike (to me), was riding it, cut off, and now kickstarter won't budge?

The cutting out sounds like you are revving above the red line. The red line is there for a reason- this is the engine speed at which the engine is under the most stress. In other words an ocassional trip into this area is not a problem, but continued use in this area will kill the engine. If the bike was mine, I would remove the head and check the piston and barrel. You don't say if the engine will start now. The fact that the kickstarter works now would seem to indicate that the engine is turning over, ( I hope). This should give you some idea at least. If not just ask!

I have a 49cc two stroke bike, (pit bike) like new. Starts first time, no problems. But after 10min of riding the bike stalls out. If i leave it for 20min then it will start again. Run for 10min then stall...

Ok, a two stroke engine basicly needs 3 things to run: fuel, compression and ignition.

First, check that the fuelline, fuelfilter, or fueltap is not blocked. If the fuelflow is alright, check that the compression is fine. try kicking the kickstarter a few time: the should be a certain resistance. If the compression is wrong try changing the headgasket. If it is alright, check the ignition. This is done by taking the sparkplug out at placing it on the frame, when you kick the kickstarter a spark should jump from the sparkplug to the frame.

But my guess would be that you have a partly blocked fuelsystem.

1974 honda scrambler wont kick start their is nothing their whats wong with it and my start button is no good so i got a bike that wont go anywhere

You have probably sheered off the teeth that engage the kick start with the gearbox, else ( more commonly ) the spline in the kickstart lever has worn out and is slipping on the input shaft.
You should still be able to bump start your bike ( in second) .
All the relevant broken bits are on the right side of the engine, I would remove the kick start lever and remove the right crankcase cover for a look.
You should still be able to get bits for your bike, they are getting collectable and some parts interchange across models.

Rear wheel locked while riding, gearbox seems fine as it will go into neutral and through the other gears. Kickstart now wont go down as it seems jammed ?

sounds like you have something lose or broken in gearbox..or clutch or kickstart workings.....i would not ride this bike till you know for sure whats up & its fixed!!....1st thing to try is take clutch cover off & inspect to see if you can see anything broke ..this does need pulling down to sort as the bike may well do again when riding it...you may even need to pull the gearbox.cluster out/in bits to check..this means engine out & pull in bits......

1974 honda cb550 will not run?

• The first thing to do with ANY engine that has sat for any longer than a couple of months is to dump ALL the fuel in the tank and carb(s). ALL OF IT !! You'll want to refill with some high priced fuel that has fuel system cleaners (Like Chevron with Techron) not becasue you need high-test fuel, but because you need the cleaners. It's ether that or disassemble the carbs and clean out jets you can't find much less see. Your choice. The carb kits alone will cost you about $50 so a tank of high-test is looking pretty good, huh?

• Now the fact that you tried to crank the engine with old fuel has fouled the sparkplugs. All of them. Go buy all new sparkplugs.

1974 R90S Transmission question

I'm not certain on the availability of the kickstart, but I would guess it was phase out over time and was also an option. From what I've heard, the kickstart on these machines left quite a bit to be desired. It was functional, but just... It seems the kickstart is best left for those dire situations when the electric start didn't work. Even then, you could bump start the bike... Duane Ausherman has info on the kick start workings here: http://www.w6rec.com/duane/bmw/trans/
