Question about 2002 Yamaha Road Star

How do i fix a horn on yamaha 1600 roadstar

On horn works but when I hook up both horns, neither works. both will work by themselves, but not together. I bypassed the wire between the horns and still the same-thing. both horns won't work when wired together.

Sounds like the combined resistance of both horns is dragging down the current ,I suggest you buy one new horn ,ebay about 3 euros including post ,the do the same thing again you will find that one will work ,hope this helped

SOURCE: the horn not working dt250, have power to wire at

Yes the horn should sound when connected directly to a power 6volt dc power supply like a battery, the power supply to the horn on a dt250 is the same supply as the brake light and indicator relay, the supply is constant when the ignition is on, the horn button then completes the circuit by earthing the horn out when pressed, simple test on the bike connect live wire to horn, using a length of wire earth out the other pole on the horn to a clean part of the frame, and the horn should sound

(new) horn not working

Hi, Anonymous first check for continuity at the power and ground wire at the horn, then check for continuity at the horn button, back in the day there was a small adjustment screw on the back of the horn, by turning it one way or the other you could set the limit on how much the diaphragm vibrated. Hi, Deberrybest whether one, some or all of your gauges go dark immediately or after a few minutes of riding the usual suspects are:
1. Blown instrument fuse.
2. A bad ground in the gauge circuit.
3. Faulty wiring before or after the fuse.
4. Faulty wiring or connector between the fuse and sensor.
5. Faulty wiring or connector between the sensor and gauge.
6. Gauge sensor has failed.
7. The gauge has failed.

If you have power to the horn, then the problem is the horn button or wiring to the horn button.
The horn is supposed to work when earthed out by the horn button.
If there is power to the horn it has already passed through and relay or fuse

I have a 1986 Yamaha Virago, the horns do not work. The four fuse between the tach and speedometer are good. the main fuse under the seat is good. Is there another fuse for the horn. if so where is it...

i dont know. but since its an 86 i'll take a guess that your horn is probably bad...check it with a voltmeter..hook up the red +lead to any of the two wires going to the horn then ground the other lead to a good bare frame or bolt, press the horn button..you'll see 12v when you press the button if that didn't work try the other wire...if you still dont see 12v then the horn is probably good and you have a broken wire or a bad fuse, sorry i dont know the location...but it should be with all the others like all the other bikes i"ve owned..you could just try replacing all the fuses that you see with new ones and then see if it works.
