How to drain engine crankcase oil 2004 1200 sportster

Run the bike to get it to normal operating temperature. Put an thin oil pan on the ground under the center of the engine. Look for the little rubber hose coming from the bottom of the bike with a plastic plug in it and held in the hose with a clamp. Loosen the clamp and save to reuse if it is the screw type. Then pull the plug out and open up the oil fill cap on right side by the seat.

Where is VSS speed sensor on a harley 1999,1200 sportser

Hi Lynnett, always check your instrument fuse before performing the next procedure, try cleaning your speed sensor located on top of the transmissions right side between the top cover and the chrome starter end cap on Twin Cams and on top of the engine case between the rear cylinder and the starter motor for Sportsters. Remove the the bolt that secures the sensor and pull it out of the transmission. Inspect sensor for obvious damage and repace if necessary. If sensor has no damage then wipe clean any obvious contamination like micro fiberous material with a clean rag and reinstall, torque bolt to 8 ft lbs. How do i drain the oil on a 1993 sportster 883 hugger

Harley has changed the location of the oil drain on Sportsters so many times it's hard to keep up with. Look on the left hand side down low on the frame behind the primary. The hose simply plugs onto a stub on the frame.

Good Luck

Not just changing oil, but is there gear oil to change, 1988 Harley 883 XL Sportster

Yes, there is oil in primary and transmission of your Sporty. To drain the oil, look for the drain plug on bottom of rear section of the primary area, back near the large round section of the primary. Drain the oil here and replace the plug. Add the oil at the top primary chain inspection port, large plug with a large "screwdriver" slot or two small bolts in it. Add 32-36 ounces of H-D "primary lubricant for Sportsters".

How do i change my engune oil

Warm up the bike first. On Evolution Sportster's, be sure to change the filter the same time you change oil. The oil may be drained from the tank, by locating a blanked-off hose behind the transmission case, near the frame. Remove the plug and drain into a proper container. One problem with Sportster's (and other HD engines) is that some old oil is always left in the system. You can eject some of this by taking off the plug wires and cranking the engine to expel old oil back into the tank, and hence to drain line. Don't crank the engine more than 30 sec. to avoid damage. Never run engine W/O oil in the system. Recycle old motor oil !!

The oil drain tube is between the rear down tubes of the frame and attaches to the frame. Don't feel bad it does not look like a the oil drain and a lot of us have trouble finding it at first.
