Why do you need to replace it??? If it is just damaged or broken outside of the primary you could solder splice in a new piece.

SOURCE: I think I have a bad stator on my 2002Harley Dyna

too many variables !
Firstly check battery under load ! any battery place or auto electrician can so it usually free!
do this before replacing any thing else!
make sure all connections are clean & tight
if battery is ok get them to check the charge rate on bike! its a simple test or you can do it with a volt meter they are only cheap to buy!

2001 Ultra Classic Battery went bad had to jump it quit charging. have a new battery now only shows 10-12 volts on the meter tried a different regulator with same results. tried to check stater with...

usually it is either the regulator or stator that dies
firstly check stator...(alternator)...set multi mtr at 500ac volts
connect probes (red/blk) to both wires from stator..output voltage should read between 100 acv mid revs to 150 acv mid revs
output to battery should be 13.5v -14.75v dc...if not then regulator is RS ...I used to fit Honda regulators 30amp type with 2 red and 2 green wires ..because it is a 3 phase regulator just disconnect one yellow wire
harley regulators are of poor quality...they have no on off switch like the japanese ones ..in other words when you turn off your ignition the harley regulator is still on
hope this helps

How do I replace the voltage regulator on an ultra classic harley davidson

Voltage regulator on an Ultra Classic is "plug and play"......usually located on the front of the frame for airflow....simply follow the wire to the left side primary and unplug it from the stator plug which is in the case. Unbolt the the regulator and replace with a new one...coat the plug with dielectric grease to stop moisture and your done.

Why is my battery burning up in my 1993 fxr?

Sounds like your voltage regulator is faulty and over charging your battery and cooking it.

Have an auto electrician check the voltage charge on your bike - it should be a relative cheap fix and will stop you replacing batteries

Stator plug

By "stator", I'll assume you mean the alternator, specifically the wires coming from it's stator coils that go through the crankcase, to the regulator.

The stator plug is at the front of the engine crankcase.
The starter is above the transmission.

There's a crankcase in between them, so no, you don't have to remove starter to do anything with the alternator.

2007 Harley Davidson FLHTCU Ultra Classic Electra Gilde low battery sympyoms

Hi Anonymous, perform the following tests:
1. Fill acid type batteries to proper levels.
2. Charge battery overnight at 1-2 amps you need 12 volts or better after charging.
3. Make sure all connections are clean and tight especially the negative cable at both ends.
4. Hook up volt meter to battery and start engine, if meter falls below 9.5 v replace battery.
5. With engine running at 3600 RPM battery should read 14.3-14.7 volts if not continue tests.
6. Unplug voltage regulator from alternator at crankcase by front of primary cover.
7. To test voltage regulator go to: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8EjV0IjW9Q
8. With ohm meter, one lead grounded, touch alternator pin meter should read infinity, if not replace stator.
9. With ohm meter, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read 0.1 to 0.2 ohms on 1989 and later models. 0.2 to 0.4 ohms 1988 and earlier models, if not replace stator.
10. With volt meter set on AC scale, both leads touching alternator pins meter should read
16 to 20 volts AC for every 1000 RPM'S 1989 and later and 19 to 26 volts AC for every 1000 RPMS. If not replace rotor. Good luck

I have an 01 ultra classic I just installed a new stator but I didnt mark the wires before removing them from the plug. does it matter which wire goes in which side of the plug?

You stator output is an AC voltage that is rectified by the regulator turning it into a DC voltage to charge the battery. I am not familiar with the later model bikes with the Twin Cam engines. However. if there are only two wires in the plug that plugs to the stator, it does not make any difference which wire goes where into the plug. The only wire that does make a difference is the wire that goes to the battery with is the DC output of the regulator. Usually that wire is a larger diameter wire due to the larger gauge wire and heavier insulation on it.

Good Luck
Steve

Battery went dead while riding. changed regulator. charging now but stator wires getting hot is that normal?

No this is NOT normal. This is an indication that you are drawing too much current for some reason or that you have a bad connection at the plug where the wires from the regulator plugs into the case. By stator wires, I'm assuming you are talking about the two wires that come from the engine case up to the voltage regulator. The stator is actually inside the primary and you can't get to those wires to feel how hot they are.

Good luck
Steve

check the wiring under the bike. the rectifier/regulator are in the front of motor. if you cut these wires the bike will not start. have seen similar with bad stator and r/r. battery will not charge when connected to bike. hope this helps.
