Question about 2005 Harley Davidson FLHTCUI Electra Glide Ultra Classic

1 Answer

Last year I put LED lights/signals on my 2010 Ultra. Last week the left rear turn/running light stopped working completely. Any ideas what may be wrong? I looked at the connections into the rear brake and everything is tight. I looked at the light board and see no discoloration...all lights in the left turn signal are not working

Check for power at the light connector, if there is none go back up the line and check at the next connector etc if there is power at a connector then there is an open between that connector and the last one that had no power. If there is power to the light assembly itself then the assembly must be defective but you could bring known power and ground directly to it on the bike or on the bench, obviously if it works then the light assembly is good and if it does not work then the light assembly is defective.

SOURCE: My rear tail light does not work when the front

You should have two filaments in the reat taillight lamp, one for tail light and one for brake light. You are not confusing these filaments/functions are you?

What you seem to be saying to me is that you have a lamp that had no tail light filament (burned out) but does have a brake light filament still intact.

Remove the light and check it visually and/or with a contunity tester.

I hope this helps you ...

SOURCE: left turn signal not working proper

Turn signals flashing is the confirmation of alarm system being on.I thought both sides flashed but if alarm is faulty guess that's messed up too. Try starting from stratch with alarm, disarm it[disconnect neg wire at battery]then reconnect wire and when that sets off alarm turn it off in normal way. That should get things back on track.Plus, try replacing the flasher unit, don't know why this works but I've heard of it.

Check the wiring within the headlight shell--look for connectors that may be corroded or pulled loose. A little WD-40 will favor connection integrity when sprayed into the connectors, then coupling and uncoupling them several times. Hope this helps!

Sorry but I don't have a wiring diagram that I can send you but I may can offer a bit of help.

Your passing lamps are simply wired into a hot circuit somewhere. A lot of schematics don't show them because they are considered "add ons". They also may have a fuse inline with the "hot" wire. They have only one wire that connects them to the bike with the rest being inside the "light bar" itself. Find the wire coming out of the center of the "light bar" and trace it back to where it hooks up. Sorry but that's the best I can do on this one.

On your front brake light, there is a switch located inside your right hand switch housing where your throttle is located. It is a plunger type switch that is activated when you pull the front brake lever. A simple test of the switch is to loosen the bolts of the master cylinder and slide it towards the center of the handlebars. If the switch is good, the brake light will come on. If the switch is bad, it will not.

To get to the switch, you'll have to take the right hand switch housing apart. First, loosen the throttle cables at the adjusters and then remove the two bolts that hold the switch housing halves together. Carefully open up the switch housing. You will see the small switch in the front of the housing. You'll have to desolder the wires, replace the switch with a new one, and resolder the wires to the new switch.

Reassembly is the reverse of the disassembly. Make sure you slide the master cylinder all the way back against the switch housing or the brake light will stay on constantly. Readjust the throttle cables and check for proper operation. You don't want your throttle sticking.

Good Luck
Steve

No Lights on Rear. All work when either the turn signal is turned on or break is pulled 2003 Harley Ultra

Hi, Anthony I own the exact same bike in the gun metal blue Anniversary Edition, before diagnosing any turn signal/running light/parking light issue make sure the bulb is good and the light fuse has continuity with a test light. If you have replaced you OEM lights with LED lights you are going to need a load equalizer. If no turn signals work the cause could be a faulty turn signal module or the connector going to it, look for corroded, loose, or broken pins/sockets. Contact spray cleaner is great for removing corrosion. If your speedometer does not function properly it will have to be fixed first because your turn signal module gets the data from the speedometer for normal turn signal function. If your front turn signals don't work use a test light to check for power and ground at the bulb socket, then start backtracking the wiring through every wire connector to the turn signal switch/button and check for continuity, go all the way back to the fuse if necessary to find the cause of the malfunction. If your rear turn signals don't work check your rear fender wiring harness connector first for corroded, broken, loose pins/sockets, power, and a good ground, (the harness connector is usually located under the seat on the front of the rear fender) then keep tracing the wiring look for obvious harness damage caused by the rear tire. If you still can't find the malfunction backtrack from the rear fender wiring harness connector. If one side does not work you could have a faulty turn signal switch or module check for continuity.

When my E2d. Ed defender. 200 lumens flash light is turn on it act like an strob light how to stop it or is it a weak batteries

No, that is a 'feature'. It is for signalling or blinding an attacker.

This is the instructions for the 500 lumen version but it will be the same. Nice light, I run Fenix Tactical. Strobe is usually gained by switching on and then half depressing the button and holding. If this doesn't work, contact Surefire direct.

The E2D LED Defender® Ultra is a compact 500-lumen flashlight featuring dual-output capability and self-defense enhancements. Utilizing a virtually indestructible high-performance LED and a Total Internal Reflection (TIR) lens, the E2DL Ultra is activated with a pushbutton tailcap click switch that also selects output levels: press or click once for a high-intensity 500-lumen white-light beam-ten times the light needed to overwhelm the night-adapted vision of an aggressor. Return to off and press or click again within two seconds for a 5-lumen ultra-long runtime low beam that's suitable for navigating at night or performing close-up tasks for hours. The Defender's crenellated Strike Bezel® provides further defensive options should the need arise. Slender and powerful, the E2DL Ultra is an ideal everyday-carry light.

I HAVE A 1997 HONDA SHADOW 600 FRONT BLINKERS WORK FINE RIGHT REAR WORKS FINE BUT LEFT REAR WILL NOT BLINK LEFT FRONT DOSE BUT FAST I CHANGED BULB IN LEFT REAR DID NOT HELP IS IT A BAD FLASHER

If you have changed the blinkers over to LED lights , you need to put diodes on the wires to stop the fast flash. Honda turn signals Have to grounded to the green ground wires in the harness. You can not ground them to the frame or other wires or the flasher system will not work correctly. Double check that all the wires are connected to the harness correctly (They are color coded). Blue with white band is the same as blue with white stripe. Orange with white band is the same as orange with white stripe. If you have crossed the wires on the front turn signals you may be powering the rear turnsignal with the running light. The running light is the dimmer half of the bulb. The turn signal/flashing light is the brighter side of the bulb. Inspect your wiring carefully.

Changing my lights in tour pack of my 1998 Ultra Classic to LED, do I need a load equelizer for the running, stop and signal lights?

Just put them on, they are fine, because LED draws much less power but gives you more candle powers to be seen from a further distance.
