Question about 2001 Ducati 996

Ducati high beam not working

When I bought the bike (used) the headlight long beam would "lag" ie come one a full second or more after switch-on. Now it does not work at all. The bulb is good. The switch checks good too.

Hi, Anonymous if your headlight is not working, keeps burning out or is dim the first thing you need to check is the headlight bulb for damaged filaments then check your light circuit fuse, that being said the usual suspects are:
1. Faulty ground or power supply wire to headlight bulb socket.
2. Worn, chaffed, or broken wires in the light circuit.
3. Corroded, broken, or loose pins/sockets in wire connectors.
4. Faulty hi/lo beam switch.
5. Faulty ignition switch.
6. Fuse is good but no continuity on both sides.
7. Faulty wiring between battery positive and headlight bulb socket.
8. Weak charging alternator/generator.
9. Faulty voltage regulator/rectifier, overcharging.

SOURCE: 998 lowbeam problem

Chips and relays go bad, but before checking that I would: Check that you are getting current in the socket that the bulb connects to. Also make sure that the socket is solid and that the connectors are intact. Make sure all wires are connected. Sometimes the ground wire or others disconnect, but look connected. I'm sure you pulled out all fuses to check with a flashlight [if you cannot see if on was blown with the naked eye]. Also, odd and obvious as this sounds, sometimes the replacement bulb may be defective too. So I'd have a couple new ones to see if that is the problem. Follow the wiring to make sure that the wiring or connectors are solid. Actually disconnect and connect all connectors as sometimes loose connections cannot be seen with the naked eye. And I would check everything forward and reverse, as it is sometimes to miss something if you only go in one direction. In other words, start at the headlight, then work back to the chips and relays, then start at the chips and relays and work toward the light. One thing I do is work in a dark place and use a bright flashlight to focus on areas I am checking. Seems to work better than in a lighted garage, etc.

SOURCE: headlight problem

hi m8,,if all is been adjusted as u say ,and still high,,4 an easier option ,, u will have to take off the head set fairin,, wen u can get to the head light, take off the 2 top screws holding headlight on,,and fit on some spacers or a few washers this will tilt the head light down ,,leave the to bottom screws of the headlight as they are ,, just do the top,, u will have to re adjust the light back up,,cheers

SOURCE: fuel pump ducati 750 sport 2002 runs at times, but mostly not

Your fuel pump is vacuum operated, I would look for a crack in the rubber somewhere. Also, the side stand, the bike will start with it down, but will shut off the second you put it in gear. I have a 2002 S4.

Headlights wont turn

sounds like the headlight switch is defective and needs replacing, but you need to check to make sure the rod that the switch pushes against if make the full travel and not short as this will not allow the switch to change from low beam to high beam.if the rod is travelling the full length then the switch is no should also hear a click when moving the arm to go from low to high if not then the switch is holding the lever at a certain position to get the high beams to work this also indicates a switch problem.

Only 1 light workin on low beam

Every single time I have had a failure of low beam in a headlight without failure of high beam, it has been because the lamp bulb or halogen lamp module has reached the end of its serviceable life, not because of any wiring problems. Low beam burns out first because it is on the most. If low beam is lost simultaneously in both headlights, I would check fuse first, then the headlight switch. If low beam is lost on one side only, it is almost always going to be due to the bulb or lamp module needing to be replaced. In that case, replace them in both headlights because the other one will be going kaput in short order, as well.

Ducati ss 800 2007 headlight and turn signals don't work

Hi Joe

I don't own a Ducati or know it's circuits.
But, as an ex auto electrician I suggest the following.... if your short of electrical tools.

Use a simple wire from Battery 12v terminal (with a fuse or 10Amp circuit breaker in series with the wire.
Connect to headlight connector low beam / high beam to see if it works.
Lights work OK?

Use a simple 12v test light connected to ground or Battery Negative to trace the wire back.
Check on either side of connectors.
Check Fuse Block with test light to find open fuse.
Process of elimination

Good Luck

The new headlight has 4 wires the bike has 3.2 wires are the same color and 2 are diferent

Yes, on the older bikes, you have a black wire that is ground. A yellow wire that is for the low beam and two white wires, one for the high beam and one for the high beam indicator light. This the way the older bikes are anyway.

Take a test light and figure which one is which. Turn the ignition on where the headlight should be on. Make sure the light switch is in "LOW" beam. Use the test light to find the "hot" wire. The turn the light switch to "HIGH". One of the two wires that is the same color should go "hot".
The remaining wire is the ground wire.

I hope this helps,

Good Luck

Sounds like you have a ground fault. I once had a car with a faulty ground wire on the headlight, when I put high beam on the speedo would jump to 170km/h and the indicators would glow dimly. Sure sounds like a similar ground fault to me, check all the ground straps, from the headlight or anywhere else you can think of.
