Engine light and battery light lit up

Hi Anonymous, your battery has discharged to a non functioning level. Recharge your battery to 12.5 to 12.8 volts and perform a load test on it to check for a bad cell if your meter reads 10 volts or lower after load test replace the battery. Check your charging system should put out 14.3 to 14.7 Volts DC at the battery. Good luck

Ect light won't go off in car

When it is on it helps you accelerate faster for sportier driving, but it seems to use a little more gas when I drove with it on all the time. I would shut it off if you do not want to use it.

Suzuki 1986 intruder red light on dash

Check the battery is charging correctly. the voltages at the battery should be engine off- about 12.4 volts DC . Engine running at about 1000 rpm the voltage should be about 14.4 volts DC. if these voltages are down, you have a regulator, rectifier or alternator problem.

There is NO POLARITY to worry about since you MUST use an adapter that supplies 9 volts AC at around 850ma. You CANNOT use a DC adapter with this unit and have it work. Putting a DC adapter of 9 volts on it won't damage it, it just won't work.

AC output adapters are harder to find.

The battery keeps dieing and the break lights aren't working

If the battery keeps dying, you need to have the battery checked. Take it out of the bike and take it to an automotive parts store. Ask them to Load Test the battery for you. If the battery is good, you need to check the charging system. To check the output of the charging system, first, fully charge the battery. Then connect a voltmeter to the battery, red meter lead to the positive post, black meter lead to the negative post. Put the meter's function switch in DC VOLTS, 50 VOLTS range. Start the engine and bring it to a high idle. The meter should read 14.5-15.0 volts. If not, you need to check the stator. Since you didn't tell me what year or model your bike was, if you'll respond and supply that information, I'll tell you how to check the alternator output.

Also, tell me whether it's the front brake or the rear brake that doesn't light the brake light.

Good luck

My battery light and engine light came on while riding, what could be issue?

I would check the charging system on the bike. With the battery at full charge, start the bike and measure the voltage at the battery. Use a DVOM (digital volt ohm meter) and put the red probe on the positive terminal and the black probe on the negative terminal of the battery. Put the meter in DC volts 50 volt range. When you rev the engine a bit, you should read 14.5 - 15.0 volts. If you're reading under 13 volts with the engine running, your charging system had gone out.

Charging failure on a 1987 fz600

The generator will produce ac voltage not dc so the meter needs to read ac voltage. the readings need to be taken between the three wires using two at a time until all combinations have been tried. readings should all be the same. Engine will have to be run at about 5000rpm while readings are obtained. Other possible problem could be the regulator / rectifier unit breaking down when hot.

Battery not charging on my 1987 fz600. if i put an ohm meter on the plugs coming out of the generator will that tell me anything? is there a voltage regulator (maybe by another name?) or is it built into...

Put your Ohm meter on DC Voltage and put the negative or black on the negative of the battery and the red on the positive and see what your voltage is with all your lights on. Should be around 13 to 14 volts. If not and is around 11.5 or 12 then either your alternator or regulator is shot.
