SOURCE: what type of motor oil used in 1994 harley davidson 883

harley recomends that you use their oil but i would be carefull because it is a cynthetic now if you were using regular oil what that will do is clean all the old build up out of the motor this can be bad because after time there are pin hole leaks that occure but the build up stops it from leaking but if you use cynthetic you cant go back to regular oil it will gum up on you and ruen your motor so you got to find out what has been put in it. but use a 10-30

SOURCE: removing harley davidson ultra classic gas tank

Drain the fuel either by siphening or removing the cross over tube at the front of the tank and letting it drain that way or just block off those cross over lines and leave the fule in the tank for removal.

0) remove seat
1) drain fuel
2) undo cross over line (bottom front of gas tank.
3) shut off pet **** and remove fuel line from pet ****.
4)there should only be 2 bolts holding the tank on, one at the top front of the tank and one at the back of the tank.

All in all a pretty easy (but possibloy messy) job.

SOURCE: assy of starter clutch on 2003 Harley Davidson

The starter on a late model Harley is a typical Nippondenso gear reduction type starter. They are all basically the same except for size.
To replace the starter clutch inside the starter assembly requires disassembly of the starter assembly.

I you will contact me directly, I will scan the procedure and drawings out of a service manual for you.

99 Heritage Springer no fuel to carburetor.

Have you checked the vacuum diaphram in the fuel petcock? In 1996, Harley went to a vacuum operated fuel petcock. It has a diaphragm in the backside of it that opens the fuel petcock when the engine is started. These diaphragms get holes in them and the vacuum lines come loose from the backside of the carburetor. Check on both of these problems.

Gas runs out of yhe over flow tube on the carb after it sits nawhile after riding. Harley 883 sportster. 1200cc

You didn't say what year modle bike you have but you probably have more than one problem. The first problem is in the carb. The needle is not seating properly in it's seat in the carb. The needle and seat shuts off the fuel to the float bowl once it's full. Ths could be because of wear or you might have a bit of trash in the needle and seat. The second problem is that since 1996, Harley has been installing vacuum operated fuel petcocks on the bikes. Fuel should be shut off if the bike is not running. Either the petcock has been changed out and a manually operated petcock has been installed or the needle in the petcock is not turning the fuel off. You'll have to remove the petcock from the tank and disassemble it to check the condition of the needle in the petcock. Take the rear plate off the petcock to access the needle and the diaphragm that operates it. Check the diaphragm for holes.

My 2007 flhtc harley davidson is starveing for gas. i changed both fuel hoses & it didnt do any good! its dying & wont stay running. what should i check next

If the bike is equipped with a carburetor, check the fuel petcock. In 1996, Harley went to a vacuum operated fuel petcock. It has a diaphragm in the backside of it that can develop a hole in it. When this happens, no fuel gets to the carb or not enough. To test, pull the hose off the carb and put the end of it in a catch can. Spin the engine with the starter and watch for fuel coming out of the hose. Or, if you have a hand operated vacuum pump, plug the hose from it onto the nipple on the backside of the petcock. Apply vacuum and watch for fuel flow. You can drain the tank and remove the petcock from the tank. Take the square plate off the backside of the petcock. Notice how the parts come out of the petcock. Hold the diaphragm up to a light and gently stretch it looking for a hole. You can buy a replacement diaphragm at your local H-D dealership. Personally, I'd change the petcock to a high quality manually operated one. You'll have to turn your fuel on and off manually, old school style. But, you won't have anymore problems with it.

Harley turns over but does not fire i checked fuses they are good i drained the fuel tank to make sure there was not any thing in the filter but i dont know if it is getting gas gas does not come out of...

You didn't say what year or model your bike was so I'll just take a guess here. In 1996 and later, Harley started putting vacuum operated petcocks on their bikes that are equipped with a carburetor. It should have a small vacuum line running to the backside of it unless someone has changed the petcock to a manual operated one. The vacuum line comes off the backside of the carburetor and supplies vacuum to the VOES switch and the petcock.

If it is a vacuum operated petcock, it will have a square plate on the backside with four small screws holding it on. Take the screws out and carefully remove the plate. Notice how the stuff in there comes out. There is a spring, a needle, and a diaphragm in the petcock. Hold the diaphragm up to the light and gently stretch it while looking for a hole. If you find one, put a new diaphragm in the petcock. Upon reassembly, connect the vacuum hose and turn the petcock to the normal run position. Leave the fuel hose off and spin the engine. Fuel should flow from the petcock. If you have a hand operated vacuum pump, you can connect it to the petcock and apply vacuum to get the fuel to flow.

Personally, I suggest changing the petcock to a high quality manually operated petcock and turn your fuel on and off manually. Old School style. Pingel makes a very high quality petcock. They aren't cheap but you'll never have another petcock problem.

I just picked up a peacock from dudley perkins Harley. assembled the thing and screwed it into the gas tank. I hooked up the fuel line but there isnt any gas did I do something wrong?

If your petcock is a standard replacement part, you must connect the vacuum line to the backside of the petcock. There should have been a vacuum line on your old petcock unless a previous owner has changed the petcock to a manually operated one. The vacuum line comes off the backside of the carburetor and supplies vacuum to the VOES switch and the petcock.

Still even with the vacuum line connected, you won't get fuel until you turn the engine with the starter. The engine must turn to generate the vacuum to open the petcock. If you have a hand operated vacuum pump, you can use this to check the fuel flow from your petcock.

Fuel dripping from overflow tube

Since 1996, Harley has used a vacuum operated petcock that is supposed to cut off the fuel when the engine is not running. If fuel constantly drips from the overflow hose when the engine is not running, you have two problems.

One, the vacuum operated petcock is leaking. Either repair or replace the petcock with a manually operated petcock like a Pingel.

Two, your needle and seat in the carb is leaking. You need to have a qualified mechanic inspect the needle and seat in your carb.

How to drain a gas tank on a harley 1200 sportster

Evidently, you have the vacuum operated petcock on your bike. If you have a hand operated vacuum pump, you can unplug the vacuum line from the back of the petcock and apply vacuum with the pump.

Otherwise, use a large funnel under the petcock and loosen the petcock tank fitting until the fuel starts to flow out. The funnel will catch the gasoline and direct it into a gasoline can.

My 1998 Dyna has a small leak or drip coming from petcock

Sounds like you have a hole in the vacuum diaphragm that opens and closes the petcock. This is one of the problems with the vacuum operated device. The other problem is that sometimes they don't open and you're left stranded with a full tank of gas and not a drop in the carburetor. I changed to a manual operated petcock. Personally, I'd rather have a Pingle petcock than another vacuum operated Harley petcock. If you do change to a manual operated petcock, don't forget to plug the small vacuum hose.

If you want to keep your vacuum operated device, I think you can buy a replacement diaphragm. You will have to drain the tank and remove the petcock. There are four small screws on the backside. Remove the screws and the backplate will come off. The diaphragm and a sping is all that is in that section of the petcock.

Turning off fuel for tank removal 07 1200c

I think your fuel petcock has the newer vacuum operated petcock. If it does, it will have a small vacuum hose connected to the rear of the petcock. Whenever the engine is off, there is no vacuum on the line and the petcock shuts off the fuel automatically.

If your petcock is the manual version, it should be marked where to put the lever to turn the fuel off.
