If it won't hold a charge, then the battery is no good.

Has it been sitting a while , , may be old gas , try the star tron i believe it is called... A fuel stabilizer , it cleans out the carbs pretty good , put new fuel in with the star tron , let run for a while and should clear up if that is the problem , i found it at napa , small light blue bottle , all my bikes would only run on full choke and at low idle , this stuff cured them all , good luck

How to charge battery on a Yamaha SR 125


Hi, Anonymous the best way to charge a battery is slowly. I like to use this analogy, would you rather be awakened from a deep sleep with gentle nudging or a violent kick in the rear.
1. Remove battery and check for corroded or damaged terminals clean any dirt, corrosion or electrolyte that is on top of the battery as this will cause premature battery drain, inspect for cracks and swollen/expanded sides which are a sign of overheating and replacement should be seriously considered.
2. Acid plate type batteries should be checked with a hydrometer with recorded readings for each cell to be compared with after charging readings and for sulfation, the cell will appear milky, and incorrect acid level. Fill low levels with distilled water to upper level and remove acid from over filled cells with hydrometer until the level is at the upper mark and dispose of acid in the sink mixed with a quart/liter of water.
3. Connect a voltmeter set on the DC scale to the battery and record the reading for comparison after charging.
4. Attach a drain hose that is not pinched, kinked, or plugged to the nipple on acid plate type batteries and let the other end hang into a plastic or styrofoam cup.
5. Connect a 1-2 amp trickle charger that has automatic charge rate reduction if possible and let charge for 24 hours.
6. After charging recheck each cell with a hydrometer a 100% fully charged cell will have a specific gravity reading of 1.270-1.280 and 1.180-1.190 has only a 25% charge battery should be load tested and considered for replacement if necessary. Reconnect your voltmeter and
any readings in the 10-volt range means you have a dead cell and the battery needs to be replaced. Readings between any 2 cells of 50 points or more indicate the battery has failed and needs to be replaced.
7. No maintenance AGM or GEL batteries need to have a voltmeter reading of 12.8-13 volts for a full 100% charge and 12.2 volts is only a 25% charge and should be load tested and replaced if necessary.

Can i over charge my mobility scooter go go pride


Yes you can overcharge a battery, it all depends on the charger your using. Most chargers are single stage chargers. Most scooters come with a single stage charger. My scooter has a built in single stage charger What this type of charger does is output a constant 24v @ 4amps.The problem is batteries amperage requirements decrease as the battery charges. An overcharge will occur when the battery is charged. It requires very little amperage to maintain a charge on a fully charged battery. A single stage charger like mine will output 4amps regardless of the state of charge of the battery. Batteries bring charged with single stage chargers loose their electrolyte. What happens is overcharged batteries break down the electrolyte into oxygen and hydrogen. So overcharging will cause a battery to "boil-out" its electrolyte. Batteries don't work without electrolyte. In the old days there were only single stage chargers. That was the state of the art back then. So to cope with the constant overcharging batteries had refill ports where you could replenish the electrolyte using distilled water.

Scooter batteries are far and away different from the lead acid of the 1970's. Scooter batteries are sealed, they are deep cycle, they use a glass mat soaked in gelled electrolyte. These glass mat batteries optimize the electrolyte used so they can use allot less of it. These newer batteries have a lot more power in a lot smaller package but they have a draw back, they must be charged properly. You can absolutely can not charge these batteries with a single stage charger. Actually you can charge with this device but you will loosed electrolyte each time you charge.

I use a three stage charger 24v @ 5amp. This charger s different from a single stage. Its what they term a "smart charger" it monitors the state of charge of the battery. As the battery charges it turns down the amperage. When the battery is fully charged the amperage is turned low enough were the charge is maintained. The entire charging process is designed to preserve electrolyte. In short this type charger will not overcharge the battery.

Keeps stalling out and wont stay running


The fuel system is probably gummed up from the gas sitting in the unit. Change the gas and use a fuel additive such as Star Tron in the new gas to help clean it out. If that doesn't get it, you may end up needing to replace the fuel filter and/or rebuild the carburetor. You can get the model # from your carburetor (usually stamped into the housing of the carburetor, itself) and enter it at PartsBuggy's website here to get a list of the available repair kits.

Ethanol in fuel shortens the shelf life of fuel dramatically and using Star Tron can all but eliminate the problems of ethanol in today's fuel.

Sounds like its your battery not holding charge it may say all is well when charging however if the electrolyte has perished then it won't hold the charge and will fail to produce power when you turn it on.

Battery wont hold a charge overnight but starts right away with a jump or battery charger and runs throughout the day


sounds like the electrolyte levels in your battery are extremely low which will cause it to not hold a charge except over the day when the alternator is constantly recharging it, ask a mechanic to either top it up or buy a new battery
