It has a hole in it somewhere. they get brittle with a little age and can crack and start to leak. make sure there are clams on the hose as well

Fuel leak carbuerator

Is it a visible leak? Most quadra jet carbs leak internally. There's a rubber plug that comes in the overhaul kit that solves the problem

Fuel leak

This sounds like a stuck float needle in the carbuerator. You might have some luck with a rubber mallet-turn on the fuel, then thump the bowl a few times. If this doesn't work, you may have to remove the bowl to see if the float has sprung a leak and filled up with fuel.(the float won't float if it is filled with liquid!)

Smell of gas while driving is very noticable inside of the car.

Sounds like one of the rubber hoses in the engine bay may be leaking. Could also be a leak somewhere around the carbuerator or fuel injectors.

Turn on the car and look/smell your engine bay. Look for anything that may indicate a leak or try and follow your nose. Leave running for awhle, and if you still can not find it, turn car off, and check all lines again.

Lynda,
Many times the return hose is routed thru the hole you described with no extra fittings or grommets. I suspect the hose cracked at that point, some of it fell inside the tank, and the rest is what you can see on the outside, so you may need to replace the hose with a longer one. The diameter needs to be larger than the hole as the 'press-in' fit seals the tank from leaking.

I am replacing the fuel tank assy and purge bulb (i.e. primer) on my Sears Craftsman model 358.798940. The original plastic tubing was old and brittle and broke apart while disassembling, so I could not...

The order of fuel travel should be:
Fuel filter to fuel hose to Carb's Fuel Supply nipple. (On the main body of the carb)
Primer Plate Nipple on carb to fuel hose to Suction Nipple on Primer Bulb. (It must pull fuel thru the carb, not push)
Pressure Nipple on Primer Bulb to fuel hose to Fuel Tank Return hose.

When correctly installed, the fuel will be PRESSED into the fuel tank via the return hose when primer is pressed in . . . and SUCTIONED out of the tank and into the Carburetor when primer in released.

Hope this helps,
Dolf-

Not getting fuel to digital carbuerator

Replace the fuel pump.If you live up North then in some cases where the air is real cold and nippy the fuel lines will actually leak flaky gas into the pump without it on to pump it to the carb, therefore corrosion and rust seize the Fuel Pump until it doesn't turn on when the key is in the 2nd position.

I have fuel dripping in the front near carbuerator

Most often the leak is at the fuel line connection at the carb. Replace this gasket and check the fuel filter at the same time. Do not use thread sealant! Do not drive it with this leak!! Frankster016
