You transmission may be slipping into reverse instead of going neutral when taking you foot off the accelerator.

Sounds like a bent fork in the transfer case. It is a common problem with your truck. The transfer case is a np236. If it just recently started doing this, the rebuild will cost around $800. If the 4wd has been acting up for a while, the planetary will probably need changed, which is another $200.

SOURCE: engine or transmission knock / rattle upon

I had the same problem on my 2006 Lucerne and it was the engine mount located on the front of the vehicle behind the radiator.

SOURCE: The gear shift on my 1998 Lincoln Navigator is

It can be either the shift cable or the Automatic parking brake release.
With your vehicle stalling it sounds like the parking brake release is leaking vacuum and causing stalling.

You can check with Autozone or Oreillys to see if there is an aftermarket part for that. Then locate the Auot release on your vehicle and when you take it off, slide the parts within the fixture to verify sticking.

That is a feature when press on the brake turns engine off....when you depress brake turns back on. It try help the consumer not waste gas when stopping at the lights or a long wait at intersection..... There is a button with A circled arrow with a word OFF that turns that feature off that will keep that car from turning off on you. Hope that help you.

2003 Rav 4 periodically stalls at low idle, intersections

Start with the throttle body. I use brake clean and a toothbrush. Clean the plate and were it sits. Wouldn't hurt to spray down the MAF sensor, if it has one. Once you do it, it will take a few seconds to start. Once started, rev it up and spray inside the throttle. Keep it running. Most times this is a $4 fix.

MOTOR CUT OUT , OR WONT IDLE AT STOP STREETS OR ROBOTS oIL LIGHTS START FLICKERING AND ENGINE STALLS

if this is happening when the foot is on the brake, then it is possible that the brake booster is leaking air and running the engine too lean.
check by idling without the foot on the brake

Im driving my van and i push the brake and it just turns off out of nowhere what could it be?

A battery light indicates a problem with the charging system. By the time you apply the brakes, it takes the power from the ignition and stalls the vehicle. Its highly likely the alternator needs replaced.

2002 ford explorer 4 wheel drive acting up

You have to put it in neutral with the engine running and the vehicle stopped and your foot on the brake. Press the button and wait a few seconds and you should hear it disengage. You have destoyed the deferential by driving it on a non slippery surface with the 4x4 engaged. Very very expensive mistake if you ever decide to fix it. Hopefully it will do ok in 2wd.

Everytime im driving slow and i brake my brakes grind and i have to press hard to come to a stop. it rarely happens when im going at higher speeds although it has happened. Whats the problem?

normally grinding and a hard pedal mean excessive wear on the brake pads, you wont feel it as much at higher speeds, at low speads its more previlant due to the pressure......check front pads first, the rear ones usually wear a lot slower

Antilock brakes not funtioning properly on "hard" stops

Yes, I never did like ABS brakes because of this. What you have experienced is the ABS system working as it is designed to do. I know, it doesn't seem like you should still be moving after slamming on the brakes, but here is how it works;
When you apply a fast and hard pedal and the ground beneath you is wet the wheels stop at different times. There are sprockets mounted to the rear of the rotors, with magnetic sensors that monitor the wheel info. for all four wheels mounted next to the brake calipers. On a hard stop when the sensor detects one wheel stopping and another still going, these sensors send "pulses" to each wheel until the vehicle has stopped without the brakes having to lock up. The pulsiing is what you experienced and is a normal part of the ABS function.
Please rate this and let me know if it helped.
