SOURCE: oil come out the air cleaner

Too much crankcase pressure or the breather pipe is split/dosconnected. The crankcase breather goes into the rear of the air filter and the crankcase gasses are drawn in to the cylinder with the gas/air mixture and burned

The fork oil is a very specific job needing a manual and a special tool, I don't want to insult anyones mechanical knowledge but if you have never done it before, best to take somewhere else. Engine oil on the other hand is easy, the drain tube to any softail is on the right side by where the frame meets the swing arm, has somekind of plug in it. Start and run bike for a little while, long enough to get it warm but not hot. Remove fill plug and then remove plug in drain line. Using a peice of cardboard or something put in between filter and frame , directing the oil to your drain pan instead of where ever it goes. Put 1 qt oil back in (after everything is reinstalled) start the bike and make sure the oil light goes out, when it does shut bike off and fill to the point that when it is standing upright you get a little oil on the tip of your finger, over filling may result in loss of oil cap from pressure (been there)

You only oil it if it is the oil-able type and you have washed it and dried it properlyu and then you use a filter spray oil and sparay enough oil on it to cover the surface but not so much thatit will drip off when in service.

Where is idle screw on 05 road king

Hi Anonymous, the idle set screw is on the right side of carburetor it's a brass screw with a spring behind it. Also there is a cam stop screw where the ends of the throttle cables hook into. If your fuel injected go to www.v-twinforums.com/twin-cam-88-engine-technical-discussion/73639-adjusting-idle-fuel-injection.html Good luck

Idle adjust on fi softail deluxe

Hi Anonymous, high idle on fuel injected models can be casued by a faulty IAC valve located on the top front of the induction module. It has either failed electronically and needs to be replaced or mechanically getting gummed by contaminated engine blow by. You can try cleaning the unit by removing the air cleaner and backing plate, unplug, unscrew and remove the IAC. Using carb cleaner and " LOW " volume compressed air to clean the metal pintle and shaft that is spring loaded and has an operating length of just under 1 inch. Aventurous souls who did not heed the low air warning have launched pintle and spring into parts unknown. There is no guarantee this will work but worth a try since a new one is $50 Good luck

Can you use carb cleaner on efi 2006 softail v-twin the problem is when i am trying to maintain a speed around town the bike chugs and jerks if i give it mors gas it ok alond as i am on the gas or...

you would use Fuel Injector Cleaner in the fuel since it is EFI (Electronic Fuel Injected). Check the Fuel filter while you are at it should be inline between the tank and the Injectors. If the filter hasnt been changed for a while it will cause this type of problem and eventually will cause damage to other components.

Need to locate engine oil drain plug so i can replace the oil

I am referring to the drain pan on the Harley Davidson Twin cam 88 engine.

The engine oil drain hex bolt is located on the right side of the motorcycle (as you are seated on it) and is removed/installed horizontally.

Transmission oil drain hex bolt is located on the left side of the motorcycle (as you are seated on it) and is removed/installed vertically.

When starting oil shoots out breather tube on air cleaner. what causes that?

It sounds like you have a condition we call "oil sumping". This is common on Softails and the old Shovelhead bikes. What is happening is when the bike is allowed to sit up for an extended period of time, the oil in the tank seeps past the check valve in the engines oil pump and collects in the engine cases. When the engine is started, the crankcase pressure blows the excess oil out of the vent which is in the air cleaner. The reason it does this is because the oil tank is higher than the engine. I thought Harley would have figured out a way to prevent this from happening in the new Twin Cam engines but I suppose they didn't.

Now, on the older Evo engines, you could reface the seat in the oil pump and stop this most of the time, but I don't know how to stop it on a Twin Cam since they've got a completely different oil pump.

On an Evo, there is another thing that would cause this as well. If you had something come through the oil pump and it locked the scavenge gears up and sheared the drive key, all the oil in the tank would be in the engine. This would cause oil to blow out of the air cleaner as well.

Check the level of the oil in your oil tank. The stick has two marks on it. The top mark is "FULL HOT" and the lower mark is "FULL COLD". Do not overfill your oil tank.

Good Luck
Steve
