Question about 2001 Harley Davidson FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide
No issues below 60 and not during acceleration. Only 60 and above. First ride of the season. No issues prior to this. Only 2600 miles on bike.
Hi Jeff, Sometimes it is easy to fix and sometimes not so easy. Always check the easiest and least expensive resolutions to your problems. This case I would start with the throttle cable. Has it snapped, stretched, is it in need of adjustment, Take a good long look at this cable from the hand controls down to the carb. Turn the throttle to full open (shut the fuel supply off first at the tank so you wont flood it.) Notice how far the carb opens up. Holding the hand throttle still full open try pushing the accellerator thingy with the spring on it, your carb to see if it will go back even further. If this is the case then you just need to adjust that cable so it is full open at the carb when the throttle is full open. If that is not the problem then repost and we can try something else. If you get out of this problem without having to pay a qualified HD mechanic the $70/per hour that he will charge, you should invest that money in the HD service manual for your year and style of bike. The money you save doing your can be invested in HD tools and more manuals ie. electrical dignostics, part index has amazing blow ups that show where every nut and wire is supposed to go.

Sometimes the dealers will remove a wheel to change a tire and only back the adjusters off enough to get the wheel off (ie 4 full turns each). When they are done they return the adjusters the same amount of turns to tension the belt and never really align the wheel properly. This could be what the problem is.

Hey Tom, gonna try and help ya here...typical vapor lock/overheating is what your describing and i sure hear a lot of it w/harleys...are you using a very high grade synthetic oil , like castrol Syntec Actevo ? are you filling up w/ premium gasoline ?
make sure your timing is not too far advanced and don;'t let it idle too low...when you come to a stoplight stand up for a strech while letting your engine get air not blocked by your legs....all these things will help greatly......Good luck to you friend...Tim

sounds like your main jet is clogged you will need to take carb off and clean the jets out run a peice of a wire wheel through the jet to ensure they are clear you also need to clean your float needle valve to ensure that it is getting enough fuel

This could be a result from a couple of different things however if your vibration is at idol and has and keeps getting worse it is proably one of the motor mounts. These can very difficult to see so if you remove one there is a thin lip above the rubber and metal bracket and if that is not there then the mount is no good
