1986 zl 600 eliminator. Quits while driving.

1986 zl 600 eliminator. Quits while driving. Sometimes, it will back fire and start back up. Other times you need to pull over and wait a couple minutes before it will start again. Must be something electrical. Where's a good place to start?

I had a similar problem. Mine would continue running, but it felt like it dropped cylinders. Sputtered, backfires...etc. Check your ignitor box (under the seat, attached to the rear fender. Start the bike up to operating temp, and if it does the problem, the tech that fixed mine squeezed the ignitor box, and it returned to normal. Got a new one checking salvage yards online.

Manual for 1996 Kawasaki ZL 600 Eliminator

Hi, Diane the vast majority of service, parts fiche, and owners manuals on the internet are "FREE" to download and all service manuals contain wiring diagrams in the back pages. The rest usually charge a modest fee around $10 and there is a handful of obscure, rare, obsolete, and very old models that are no longer or never were available, for these rare occasions I shall look on eBay and find the cheapest one available. Most of the manuals will cover your exact make, model, and year otherwise one will be provided that comes as close as possible to your bike and will have most of the same info that an exact manual would have. If there is no $ sign after the manual link it is free to download for viewing or printing.

Zl 600 1986 is hard starting

Ok, the correct proceedure for starting a cold engine is as follows, pull the choke fully on, and crank over the engine, DO NOT use the throttle when cranking the engine, when the bike fires and starts, slowly turn down the choke until a smooth fast idle achieved. The important thing to remember is, do not use the throttle while the choke is on, as this lets it **** in cold air, and makes for a harder start, remember the choke is there to restrict air flow, make a rich fuel mixture, for cold starting. If that does not work, then mabey u have a carby problem, make sure your choke is coming on.

1997 220 bayou. doesn't pull like it use to, starts and idles, but doesn't seem to rev up like it should. had a spare cdi and it's not that. muffler is not stopped up. Carb seems clean. It just happened...

Have you chkd the timing.? The plate hat the oints mount on does move sometimes and the rub block on the points wear and changes the timing. That is if this bike has points.

Bike surges between 5 and 6 grand while cruising.

It's surging because of irregular fuel supply. There are numerous circuits in a carb and x the no. of carbs. The first recommendation is to have the carbs aynchronized. Under heavy throttle a circuit other than cruising kicks in making up for the higher demand. You can sync them yourself with a manometer. They sell at the bike parts stores. Hook up four vacuum lines (supplied) and adjust the carbs to mach in all columns. good luck.

Your firing order is most likely to go 1423 with the first cylinder being on the left (shifter) side of the bike. This is what many Kawasaki's used.
