SOURCE: how do i remove the

Depends on the model of the bike and the type of carb it has on it. Most have a collar or boot you back off and then remove the end of the cable from the eye latch on the carb.

Hi is it your choke cable? replace it if it is.
If its the choke plunger on the carb you need to remove the carb and remove the plunger or yamaha calls it starter set and clean the inside where it attaches usually it will hve some oxidation deposits in there so it good time to clean the whole carb what i use is a carb cleaner called brand name (Sea Foam) does a great job.

Yamaha tt-r 225 backfires, no idle without choke on, acts like bad gas but changed the gas, carburator problem? will run but must be revved at all times or engine dies

You carb needs to be removed, completley disassembled, and soaked in a quality carb cleaning solution, overnight. The bad fuel has gummed up your carbs internal passageways

Do i need to remove the carb to replace the choke cable on 2001 fxdwg

yes, you must remove the carb to replace the choke cable. The cable has a plastic piece that screws into the carb body. Since it's so close in that area, it's just easier to remove the carb.

Good Luck

The choke is stuck ...

The cables are prone to seizing up on this bike, you can try lubricating it but you will have to remove it do do this effectivley, feed oil in from the carb end, and work cable untill it moves freely, then re fit to bike

Bike will crank with choke and idle. Will not run without choke. Will rev to a point, but then sputters and will kill if throttle is not released.

Sounds like you have carb problems. You need to remove the carb and dismantle it completely and clean and adjust it.

Hard starting of a yamaha ttr 225 after sitting for several weeks. Could starter plunger in the carb be bad?

I had a similar problem with my TTR 125. I removed the carb, removed the float bowl and gave a a careful clean. I also removed the choke plunger mechanism and gave that a few shots of penetrating lube oil. The choke mechanism works much smoother as a result.
Just those two simple things and my bike fired up right away.
