Did you put lights (license plate, brake light, turn signals, running lights) onto the swingarm? When you cut off your fender, what did you do with the lighting? The lights expect to get ground (the negative side of your 12V system) through your frame. So the frame--your fender, your frame, the metal parts of the bike--act as the negative 'wire' for your system. In this case, I expect your swingarm is providing that ground instead, and the swingarm runs through a bearing/bushing/pivot point that is likely greased and not a good electrical conductor! You could try running a heavy primary wire from the bike frame or engine mounting point back to a point on the swingarm, preferably where your lights are mounted. Leave a loop or slack wire at the pivot point of the swingarm so you don't break the wire when you hit a bump. (By the way, I assume you really mean the starter breaker, not the starter relay...)

SOURCE: Won't start?

With just this info. Not knowing if the engine is stock or has bigger cams or high comp pistons.I would say check the starter solenoid by running jumper wire from one side to the other.then check ALL connections for corrosion and tightness

SOURCE: starter motor will not work unless 12v feed put through relay

Have you checked the solenoid across the main posts i.e.connection from battery to starter, you may be hearing the solenoid clicking when you operate the starter button, but it might not be completing the circuit.

Harley speedometer going crazy

Hi Anonymous, always check your instrument fuse before performing the next procedure, try cleaning your speed sensor located on top of the transmissions right side between the top cover and the chrome starter end cap on Twin Cams and on top of the engine case between the rear cylinder and the starter motor for Sportsters. Remove the the bolt that secures the sensor and pull it out of the transmission. Inspect sensor for obvious damage and repace if necessary. If sensor has no damage then wipe clean any obvious contamination like micro fiberous material with a clean rag and reinstall, torque bolt to 8 ft lbs.

Odometer, horn, brake light and turn signals stop working on my 2001 Fatboy. The odometer is also stuck on 40 mph. Have I blown a fuse somewhere?

Hi Rhargett3, remove seat and directly behind the battery is a black plastic box. The cover slides up and off revealing the starter relay and the system/fuel pump relay for you injected folks and the various assorted circuit fuses and try cleaning your speed sensor located on top of the transmissions right side between the top cover and the chrome starter end cap on Twin Cams and on top of the engine case between the rear cylinder and the starter motor for Sportsters. Remove the the bolt that secures the sensor and pull it out of the transmission. Inspect sensor for obvious damage and repace if necessary.
