Question about 2005 Honda CRF 250 R
The bike ran fine until my right intake valve clearance zeroed out on me, it was not adjustable anymore so i put a new valve in it. I put the head back on once the new valve was in, lined eveything up, made sure the valve clearances were right and made sure the timing marks were lined up correctly. When i tried starting it i noticed that it kicked over harder then usual almost like it was not timed right. When it started up it made a noticably loud chattering noise coming from the head. The bike idled and reved fine except for the chatter. Long story short I triple, triple checked everything the timing, valve clearances, put a new cam chain guide in, i even took out the hot cam and put the stock cam back in. The cam chain is newer it only has a handful of hours on it. I cant shake that chatter noise.....maybe the cam retainer rings in the holders?? Help
Any chance the valve spring has collapsed? Cam shaft thrust washers missing? Cam shaft bearing gone bad?
Please rate this solution. Thanks!

Set your cam chain tension

You did not mention that you had a valve job done. When replacing a worn out valve you also have to re-cut the old valve seat (multi-angle valve job) to match the new valve. Since you only replaced one valve it sounds like a patch job that proper rebuild would have fixed.

spring is new with the valve , thrust washers are there, the bearing could be bad. I have never changed the bearing before that could be the weak link. Thanks!!
