Question about CCM Motorcycles

Why does my ccm 644 keep floading,had carbs off 2,3 times,i get it to stop,put the bike away for a week or so,go back to bike,try starting it and the carbs start flooding again,need help thankscarbs flooding

I think this may be another one of those faults due to the ethanol and other **** in modern fuels.
There is so much rubbish in petrol the stuff just wont keep also ther have been a lot of problems with the stuff rotting fuel lines this may be your problem, the float needle may be getting stuck by particles of fuel line.

Sorry to hear about your carb issues. Two possible issues that come to mind are (1) fuel level in the bowl most float assemblies are made of brass and have a small tab which applies pressure on the float needle. If this tab is not adjusted correctly the fuel will not shut off when the float reaches its maximum height. The tab can be bent to apply pressure at just the right moment. You can verify this by doing a bench test, with the bowl off. So much nicer to know before going through all the work of putting it back on the bike. (2) Check the buoyancy of the float itself many of the old-school foam ones dont have enough umph to close the needle all the way. If you have the brass style floats make sure you dont have a leak. ( submerge the float then check for air bubbles also shake the float and listen for gasoline within) Check with GDL Cycles they can help you with those hard to find parts for many old school Japanese bikes.

if & when you do get it running again, does the bike have a petcock at the gas tank? if it does, when the bike is running before you are about to park it for 2 weeks, turn the petcock off and let the bike die on its own (from fuel starvation). this will ensure there is (almost) no gas in the carb to cause any gumming. you can drain the little bit that is left with the carb bowl drain screw. then when you're ready to ride again, simply turn the petcock on, wait a few seconds for the carb bowl to fill, then hit the start button.

I have a ccm 644 that won't start bought new battery and checked the air filter which had oil in the bottom of the filter box. Turns over no problem but no start any ideas.


Hi, Philipirk and the usual suspects are:
1. Fuel tank empty.
2. Fuel supply valve/petcock turned off.
3. Fouled spark plugs.
4. Engine flooded as a result of overuse of the enricher.
5. Vacuum hose to the fuel supply valve/petcock disconnected, broken, cracked, or pinched.
6. Fuel valve/petcock or filter clogged.
7. Discharged battery, check battery terminals for damage or corrosion, check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
8. Loose or corroded wire connection at the coil, battery or plug between ignition sensor and module.
9. Spark plug cables in bad condition and shorting, cable connections loose, or connected to the wrong cylinders.
10. Ignition timing incorrect due to a faulty ignition coil, ignition module or sensors (MAP, CMP, CKP, O2 and/or BAS).
11. Security alarm needs a reset.

1. Damaged or restricted fuel tank venting system.
2. Loose float bowl screws.
3. Damaged float bowl o-ring.
4. improper fuel level in the float bowl.
5. Worn or dirty inlet valve or seat.
6. Damaged or leaking float assembly.
7. Particle contamination in inlet fitting cavity.

Flooding carbs often means that the needle valve that the float is supposed to close is leaking, causing the float chamber to overflow. replace needle valves.

Ccm 644 carbs flooding when engine off

1. Dirt or other foreign matter between float valve and its seat.
2. Float valve sticking.
3. Float valve and/or valve seat worn or damaged.
4. Float misadjusted.
5. Float cracked, leaky or damaged.

I have a ccm r30 644 2004. The bike will not start i am getting fuel to the carbs but i presume its not going through to the head. I have taken spark plugs out and checked them i have also added a little...


dump the float bowels and inspect/ clean as necessary. consider buying an acid bath solution sold at your local parts store just for this sort of thing or carb cleaner and a toothbrush. you may need to clean your current/ buy new jets for your carbs. just try spraying starting fluid into the carbs while starting the bike by removing the air filter first and try to keep it going as long as possible this may get the juices flowing on its own. goodluck

check the fuel filter for sediments clean the carb filters too if your bike has one, overhaul the carb if necessary....
