Bad plug wire or plug. Also, possibly reversed the pos and neg wires when you installed the new coil.

No spark to rear cylinders runs good and then runs on one cylinder 1986 honda shadow 1100

try switching the position of the two coils, the plug wires will unscrew off of the coils and that way you dont have to pull the spark plug wires too,(be sure and change the 2 wire couplers too) if your front cylinder stops firing you know its the coil, if the back cylinder still doesn't fire then your coil is good and you either have a bad #2 spark unit or a bad crank pulse generator.

I mixed up my spark plugs and wires on my 1998 Pontiac Firebird 3.8. Can you explain how to find the correct firing order?

V6 firing order is 1-6-5-4-3-2. Cylinders 2-4-6 are on the PASSENGER side front to back and 1-3-5 is on the DRIVERS side front to back. Coils are 6-3-2-5-4-1 front to back.

My 98 grand prix gtp (3800) (L67) wont start...wines then BACKFIRES. everything from the heads up are brand new except the coil pack housing which ironically enough was submerged in antifreeze. however i...

If your firing order is correct(165432), then I would suspect the drenched coil pack. That oily antifreeze will penetrate every nook and cranny of the coil. It's probably shorting out and cross-firing. I would go ahead and replace it. Double check your firing order again. The back cylinders are 2-4-6, counting from to back, but that is not the firing order. The plug wires would attach to the coils in the following order, counting from the front of the coils(nearest to the front of the car)to the rear:1-4-5-2-3-6.Let me know if any of this helps you. Good Luck.

Firing order and cylinder numbering - all 3.0 and 3.8 engines:

Firing order:

1-4-2-5-3-6

Cylinder numbering:

  • Windshield side
    1--2--3
    4--5--6
    Frt. Of vehicle

Coil numbering:
    • --4 PIN--
      ----------------
      --1--- 2--- 3--

  • NOTE the irregular sequence on the 5-6-4 side. Weird, but that's the way it is.
