Question about 1976 kawasaki KE 125
The clutch seems fine till it gets up to road speed then slips when accelerating in upper gears @

Hi, Anonymous and the usual suspects are:
1. Clutch controls improperly adjusted.
2. Insufficient clutch spring tension.
3. Friction discs or steel discs are worn or warped past specs.
4. New wet clutch not pre-soaked for 24 hours.

I have a 2000 Vulcan Nomad FI & had a very similar problem. In fact, it's a very common problem with these bikes. I fixed it by replacing the Clutch Spring. (As Described here: http://www.gadgetjq.com/clutch_spring_replacement.htm
It cost me $40 and 3 hours of time with an impact wrench.

Sidestand switch broken or moved? If the switch does not detect the sidestand is retracted it will kill the engine when it is put in gear.

SOURCE: 3rd gear clutch slip
is this pensol15/40 a motorcycle oil ,do not use auto motor oil in your bic it contains a friction modifier which will coat the clutch plates and cause them to slip and then glaze. the clutch plates will have to be removed and cleaned with brake cleaner and lighty sanded to remove the glaze. jim

Probably both. You definitely should open up the clutch side engine cover and take out the clutch plates and measure them to be sure. You must drain the oils before you do so.After inspection use new oil.

Any special oils or lubricants in the gearbox? Use 10w40 motor oil in the gear box. Don't use any synthetic oils, oil marked "EC", or oil with "special" additives. Stick with the major brands; Pennzoil, Quaker State, Mobil or Shell. If in a hot area like Texas or New Mexico go with 20w50.
If the clutch still slips then go to a different mechanic and have him adjust the clutch. The first guy doesn't know what he is talking about.
