83 elcamino keeps blowing starters 6 so far in 8 months solenoid stops engaging

I will try to help. Several things about some starters, I remember there were some which had shims needed for the (starter to block) mounting bolts. Seems like a certain clearance was needed for proper mesh of starter gear to ring gear.

If ring gear was replaced, was there a difference in the number of teeth on the ring gear? Your starter drive needs to match if there was a difference. Either way you need compatibile spacing.

Overadvanced motor. Fighting compression will strain the starter. Now there were some heavy duty starters for big Cadillac motor. But these starters would also mount on a Buick 350. If you have higher compression these heavy duty starters would be a good choice.

What would be the problem with our toyota 4runner starter motor that when we turn the key the starter motor just makes a grinding noise, is it the starter motor or something else??

The grinding noise is the starter hitting the fly wheel. This means that the starter is spinning but may not be engaging all the way. Your Flywheel is probably missing a few teeth now. I recommend replacing starter and flywheel. If you're on a tight budget then you could just replace the starter but it will cost you more in the long run.

How do you change a starter on a 2005 Kia Sedona?

On the 2.9litre diesel I found that 2 of the bolts holding the starter could be reached from underneath( after jacking up and putting on ramps or axle stands both sides) the third was only accessed from the top and i had to loosen the bracket for the gear linkage cables as it prevented getting a socket on the head of the bolt. once the 4 bolts(12mm) were removed it was easy. I found on ebay a repair kit which replaces the piston and contacts which on mine were badly eroded(just as site said) and replacing those cost under £15 (about $25?) A reconditioned starter would have cost at least £175. The instructions for replacing the plunger and contacts were excellent and changing them took under 20 minutes.

Starter grinding

It could be any number of things but the most likely in my opinion is that you have a bad "over running clutch" or "starter clutch" in your bike. You didn't tell me what year model bike you have but the header of this post says you have a 2000 FLSTC Heritage.

The starter clutch can be replaced and you can save some money if you can do your own work. If not, the cost of repairing your starter and simply replacing the starter is about the same due to the added labor time required to take yours apart and replace the bad part. The starter clutch cost about $120 US. Once you get the starter off, there is about another hour labor to replace the clutch.

Good luck

The solenoid will not work, I had a friend tap it with a screwdriver and my car will now start. I took it to a mechanic who said I have to have a solenoid and starter motor installed as the solenoid alone...

A remanufactured starter would be your best bet because you have to pay the same labor to replace solenoid as you would entire starter and the starter will come with a warranty. The starter should cost between 120 and 170, and the labor should only be about 80 to 100 dollars. Good luck

Where is thestarter located on a 2003 Mercedes Benz E320?

You would need to get a repair manual for a schematic to know where the starter motor is located. In truth, replacement is not very complicated--you simply unbolt the old unit and bolt in a new replacement unit. But, you may have to disassemble other components to reach the starter motor. It is likely more costly to have your starter motor repaired. I suggest getting a new one or refurbished. Some places will have a "core charge", whereby you get that money refunded when you send them your old starter. In the end, it is cheaper and easier than getting your starter motor fixed. Good luck.

First disconnect the battery and then the cables to the starter. The starter motor is located just above the transaxle case, black, round and fixed whith two short bolts (not the long ones!) to the bellhousing. It's quite easy to remove.
Before buying a new starter motor I would suggest to first take a look at the copper-switch-plate that activates the solenoid and the starter motor - inside the housing. If it looks old, black, thin and burnt replace it - costs only a few bucks - and your starter works again - if this was yuor problem!?
