1986 Kawasaki Ninja 1000R how to replace the starter clutch

Hi, Gary, unfortunately, you do not have to remove the engine the starter clutch is a separate mechanical gear driven component that is activated by the starter motor, it engages the clutch pack gear or the flywheel gear to turn over the engine. It has an internal mechanism that allows the gear to turn in one "ONE DIRECTION" only and once the engine starts allows the gear to free spin with engine rotation. If the starter gear free spins in "BOTH DIRECTIONS" then the drive gear has failed, it might be serviceable on some models but usually needs to be replaced.

Hi, H650, working fine, then erratically just stop, seems electrical problem, side stand switch were suspicious, took it off and bridged the wires, the same problem, Thx

Hi, Tamas the ignition circuit cut-off system comprising of the side stand switch, clutch switch and neutral switch has the following functions:
a. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is up, but the clutch lever is not pulled.
b. It prevents starting when the transmission is in gear and the clutch lever is pulled, but the side stand is still down.
c. It cuts the running engine when the transmission is in gear and the side stand is moved down.
Periodically check the operation of the ignition circuit cut-off system according to the following tests.
With the engine turned off:
1. Move the side stand down.
2. Make sure that the engine stop switch is set to "RUN"
3. Turn the key to "ON".
4. Shift the transmission into the neutral position.
5. Push the start switch if the engine does not start the neutral switch may be faulty.
With the engine still running:
6. Move the side stand up.
7. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
8. Shift the transmission into gear.
9. Move the side stand down if the engine does not stall you may have a faulty side stand switch.
After the engine has stalled:
10. Move the side stand up.
11. Keep the clutch lever pulled.
12. Push the start switch if the engine does not start you may have a faulty clutch switch.
This check is most reliable if performed with a warmed-up engine.

Bleed clutch on gpz1000rx

I found this the best for my 88 FZR 1000. I would fill the reservoir and then open the bleeder valve at the clutch actuator.slowly pull in the clutch handle or the ensuing funnyness will not be my fault... A hose attached to the bleeder will help... But pull it all the way in, slowly and right as you are bottoming out close the bleeder valve. do this about 5 times, check your reservoir, do it another 5 times and check again. then this round you are actually going to pump the clutch handle 3 to 5 times holding it down on the last pump, then open the bleeder valve about 1/2 turn then close it, do this 5 times twice checking the reservoir during the procedure. if this doesn't help, you have other problems

This sound like a fuel supply problem, perhaps the fuel tap is stuck. you could try it with the tap in the pri (prime) position, if this helps it may need a new fuel tap rebuild kit
