SOURCE: what is the most practical synthetic motor oil to

You can use most any synthetic oil as long as it meets Harley's specs provided the bike is powered by a Harley engine. The fact that it's a trike has nothing to do with the engine lubrication requirements. Harley-Davidson's Syn3 synthetic oil is what H-D recommends. But, you can use any synthetic oil as long as it is 20W50 weight and meets API SG/CG4 or better ratings. The CG or better rating is what you are looking for. It is a rating for oil sufficient for use in a diesel engine. There are several manufacturers that make this type of oil. Mobil makes it's V-Twin Synthetic, Amsoil, Royal Purple, and many others. Just make sure it's rated for use in diesel engines. It has the "high pressure additives" necessary to meet Harley's specs. But, use of an unapproved oil may void the warranty on your 2010 engine. Good Luck!

Hi, Terry for this scenario you will need your service/owners manual if you can not find the best tool you ever bought for your Harley Trike, despair not, for a mere $13 you can download a special package that includes a Service Manual, Trike Supplement, and an Electrical Diagnostic Manual. I am noticing places on the ground under the front part of the engine on my street glide Trike. Oil & transmission levels are good.

If it's a 2011 model, I'd take it back to the dealer if the warranty is still good. Otherwise, look for oil running down the engine somewhere our out from underneath the engine. Once you locate the general area, clean it up as good as you can. Go for a short ride and check the engine for leakage. If you don't see it, take another short ride. Eventually, you'll spot where the oil is coming from. The source of the leak will determine what you must do to fix it.

Good Luck
Steve
