There will be oil around the stator as it is inside the primary cover . The oil is the same as what is in the engine as far as I know.

How to share stater on 1985 Suzuki gs 700


To access the stator on your GS, you must remove the round engine cover which houses the charging stator. Before removing said cover, drain about a quart of oil from the crankcase. You may re-use this oil if you wish. The stator is secured by a large nut on the end of the crankshaft which may best be removed with the use of an impact wrench. The stator is cooled by running in engine oil. Some older bikes were prone to stator failures from excessive age and heat. If you plan to continue maintaining your bike , you may wish to shop around for a manual specific to this bike. These are available at an approximate cost of twenty dollars or less. yes--remove starter-use new "O" ring.slightly oil "O" ring put it back on
starter.And make sure its firmly seated.

How to seperate the engine from the generator


Generators are getting more complicated due to the addition of solid state regulators and capacitors. In the old days, there was only brush pack and diode pack. If you would like to seperate the generator to repair the engine you must make sure not to damage wiring or brushes. You will need to remove the stator first so remove back cover to expose bolts holding stater to bell. Make note of all connections from stator to panel and remove all the wires. Remove brush pack if brush type. Pull stator out exposing the armature. Armature has center bolt to crankshaft (remove bolt). The armature is sitting on tapered engine shaft that may be rusty. Apply oil to shaft of engine directing oil to the tapered part (wd40 or similar) from the bell side and thru the bolt hole. Notice the two sides of the armature that are lamanated steel. Using small piece of hardwood against lamanated part rap solidly with heavy hammer once on each side being carefull not to damage metal or winding. Should pop loose with first or second hit. If no joy, re-apply oil but follow with a shot of carb cleaner. The carb cleaner will make the oil penetrate deeper /faster. Good luck

It depends on the bike but most bikes have oil in the stator housing that is "flung" from the crankcase

LOCAL SHOP SAYS MY STATOR IS GROUNDED,,STATOR PLUG IS SATURATED WITH OIL?


To check the stator you'll need a DVOM (digital volt ohm meter). Put the meter's function selector switch to OHMS, R X 1 SCALE. Touch the two meter leads together and notice the reading. It should be something like 0.7 ohms or so. Now, touch one lead to the engine and the other lead to either of the two metal contacts in the plug in the engine case. Do not allow that lead to touch the engine case. Your meter should read infinite ohms. Then move that meter lead to the other metal contact again not touching the engine case. You should still read infinite ohms. If your meter reads 0.7 ohms or anything other than infinity on either contact, your stator is shorted to ground. The oil on the plug has nothing to do with this. The plug is made out of a rubber compound like an oil seal. Over the years of heating and cooling the rubber gets brittle and shrinks a bit. Then, the oil in the primary seeps between the plug and the engine case. This is common but it does not effect the operation of the stator. To stop the leak, you usually have to replace the stator.

Took cover off there was oil inside is this normal for a c90 to have oil in the stator cover


My clymer manual says yes. Oil is there.
The first thing I have to do is drain the oil and pull the oil filter.
I'm replacing my stator this weekend btw.
I'm not a mechanic, but I'm well inclined and have lots of knowledge and friends that know more than I do.
I hope to have a successful stator replacement on my '07 C90T by 09/26/09
My replacement stator is $173 from regulatorretifier.com. It's advertised to be improved and puts out 20% more juice. It will be in Wed. 09/23

I have an oil leak from where the stator wires come out of the primary cover. Is there a way other than changing the whole stator to fix it?


you have some seals that are leaking from around the crankshaft the stator is supposed to be sealed from the oil you wont have to change the stator just the crank seal
