Definatly a good tune up would help, but it also sounds as if you may have a bad stator. I would check the voltage at the battery and see if it goes up and down when accelorating.

SOURCE: battery

Two things can be happening, either your charging system isnt doin the job, or you have a short thats draining yer system... so
to answer your question... start by fully charging your battery, then put a volt meter on it and turn your bike on.... the volt reading should increase.... if it doesnt - you got a stator or regulator problem - if it does..... you need to trace your wires for a possible ground to yer frame

The battery and stator. Both needs to be checked and replaced. The stator charges the battery when bike is running. If the battery is old, as per me battery life is approx 2 to 3 years. In your case battery not holding charge. Replace the battery, this should take care of problem. But if problem is same then stator also has to be replaced.-------- This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Hi, Chuck and the usual suspects are:
1. Ignition Switch not in the "ON" position.
2. Engine Run Switch in the "OFF" position.
3. Discharged battery, needs to be 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
4. Check the battery terminals for damage or corrosion check the battery cables at "BOTH" ends for loose, corroded, or broken connectors, "INSIDE" and outside the cable harness, perform connector wiggle test and check cables with an ohmmeter if necessary.
5. Tip over sensor needs a reset.
6. Faulty ignition switch.
7. Faulty starter button.
8. Faulty kickstand or clutch pull in switch/sensor.
9. Starter control circuit, relay, or solenoid faulty.
10. Main fuse or circuit breaker may be blown or faulty.

I replace the regulator rectifier and the plug to the rectifier on my 1995 Honda CBR 600 f3. soon as the bike warms up wants to die. so I unplugged the rectifier. brand new battery two. Still Dying

Hi, Harold it's really tough to answer any of your questions because you didn't ask any, the batteries in my crystal ball are dead and my mental telepathy headset is broken so here is my best shot the following applies to carbureted also fuel injected models and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery, should have 12.5 volts or better and be able to pass a load test if necessary.
2. Failed alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Failed main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Failed system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Failed ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
7. Failed CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Air/fuel mixture screw improperly adjusted.
10. Water or dirt in the fuel system, carburetor or filter.
11. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
12. Fuel tank empty.
13. The gas cap is not venting properly or fuel tank venting system blocked.
14. A failed fuel pump, pressure regulator and or fuel injectors.
15. Vacuum line from intake manifold to petcock broken, cracked, or not attached, carburetor vent line plugged.
16. Needle and seat stuck closed in the float bowl.

Driving and the car shuts off automatically

Hondas have problem with ignitor in distributor that overheats and shuts off spark momentarily. then car will restart and shut off some time later.

Wouldn't hurt to change wires anyway if old, especially if new plugs were installed. Get the most out of gas mileage that way!!!!!!!!

yes indeed number one see if there is any spark, if no spark look at your distributor roter first, i suggest you replace this as well if you haven't already.. you can pick them up at any auto shop for like less than 10 bucks. if it is a second hand distributor that has been sitting in a junk yard for months, chances are one of the wires are corroded or something.. get a new one if so they are only like 30 bucks and i think you get a discount if you give them your old one for the core.
