To replace the throttle cable, first loosen the adjustment on both cables getting as much slack as possible in both cables. Then remove the two screws that hold the right switch housing together. Carefully separate the two halves of the switch housing. Work the cable out of their slots in the throttle sleeve. Do not lose the ferrules on the ends of the cables but do take them off. Work the broken cable out of the lower switch half.

To get the cable loose from the carburetor/induction module, you'll may have to remove the fuel tank as with the fuel tank off, you can work the cable out of the cable stop and then out of the throttle plate linkage on the carburetor/induction module.

To install the new cable, first slide the new cable up through the hole in the lower switch housing. Then put the ferrules on the ends of both cables and work them back into their slots in the throttle sleeve. Carefully reassemble the switch housing halves back together being careful not to pinch any wires.

Then reconnect the cable at the carburetor/induction module throttle plate linkage and insert the new cable in the cable stop. Adjust the cable so that you have just a bit of freeplay in them and check to see if the throttle will snap closed on it's own when cranked to wide open throttle position and release. Make certain that the throttle works correctly. Put the fuel tank back on. Start the engine and move the handlebars fully left and right to ensure correct adjustment with no change in engine speed during this movement.

SOURCE: replace rear brake pads

Remove right saddlebag, pull the two caliper mounting bolts and remove the caliper. Do not open bleeder or disconnect line. You will need to push a large screwdriver between the old pads before removing them in order to push the pucks back into the caliper or the new pads will not spread enough to reinstall. Then pull the two smaller bolts from the caliper and the pads will fall out. The pads are different for inside and outside, so pay attention, and remember, after reinstalling, before riding, be sure to pump brake pedal, and it may take a few stops before brakes stop as effectively as before.

SOURCE: adjust clutch cable

If you have a stock cable you need a 9/16 and a 1/2 in. wrench. about 1/2 way downn the cable there is a rubber boot. pull the rubber boot over the adjustment. Loosen the liock nut and adjust the cable so you have aprox 1/8 to 1/16 in. slack in the handle. Re tighten the lock nut and pull the rubber back over the adjustment.

HOW to adjust valves on a Harley Davidson 2000 FLHT Electra Glide CLASSIC

Hi Anonymous, the OEM push rods on your year and model are non adjustable but you do have 4 options for noisy lifters:
1. with engine at operating temperature do a quick series of 5 throttle revs to 1000 RPM'S below red line.
2. Try an engine oil additive Liquid Molly Tappet Stop Noise or Risoline Engine Treatment.
3. Cut out stock push rods with bolt cutters, remove suspect lifter, disassemble lifter and clean with carb cleaner and compressed air especially under the lifter check plate, reassemble and install, replace push rods with Taper Lite Adjustable push rods.
4. Buy new lifters.
Good luck and have nice day.

How to replace right hand throttle grip 2003 ultra

Remove the switch housing screws and spread it away. Loosen the adjuster locknuts on the throttle cables and adjust cables in, this will allow you to lift the cable off of the throttle grip. Be care full not to lose the barrels.( the small round caps on the end of the cable.) Assembly is the reverse. Make sure to check proper operation of the throttle before starting the bike.

I think there is a throttle cable and an idle cable.Should be able to get the adjustment you need at handle bar.Check condition of cable first, cable may be broke inside sheath. You could take couple turns on adjuster but cable won't be moving if it's broke inside.

My 2000 electra glide rpms are very high over 2000 while starting up, and they dont come down to normal idle 650-750ish

check the adjustment on the throttle return cable. Try to loosen the lock nut and back the cable off at the hand controls. this would be an easy place to start

1999 FLHTCUI cruise control works during cold weather but looses communication during hot weather

I am not sure what you mean by "looses communication" but if it works when the ambient temperature is cold and not when it is hot I would check the switch on the throttle return cable. The cable possibly could be expanding enough to close the switch contacts when it is hot. This would not allow the cruise to activate.
