Missing and back firing

Cuts out missing back firing no engine manegment light on only starst to play up after a short run .new plugs new ecu all wiers clend and checked ,its a 1999 buell x1 its not got a carb

I have a 99 X1 #170/250 it does same thing when its cold. I put the buell race module still does it took it in and had motor turn apart and found nothing bike runs great when its warm you need to let it warm up it should start to fire

91 chevy cav z24 5 spd will not start @ times sounds like no fire other times sounds like no fuel.Replaced fuel pump,timing chain, crankshaft sensor,oil sensor,map sensor,body throttle accel sensor.st


Pull the air cleaner off and crank the engine. If puffs of air come come out of the throttle body when cranking the engine then the timing is not set correctly. Otherwise, after cranking pull a spark plug and see if it is wet with fuel and if so this indicates an ignition problem (coil, distributor/cap/rotor or faulty ECU).

I need diagram to the relays.


that is the ECU is bad, or fuel pump shorted.
there is a page that shows how to fix the MAD ECU box.
id say its not ecu, but there is a short some where.
96 ECU never fail.

my guess is shorted 02 oxy sensor or its wires melted against
the exhuast, shorting the ECU power to same.

No spark, only.
crank engine for 5 seconds. with scan tool connnected
release key and bingo, DTC tells you why.
bad cmp, ckp, or rpm dead.?

easy finds
unplug O2 sensor plug conn. at fire wall.
no fix clicking, ?
then at left rear tail , behind it, is huge conn. with huge pink wire.
pink is pump. pull connector, fix buzz? bingo shorted pump.
the pump can short partially and cause the ECU to go nuts.
the pump normal draw is 4 amps not 14..
a new filter for the pump , in front of tank , makes pump last 10x longer.

Sorry no idea without a plug in of as diagnostic reader ,i would suspect a cam sensor but??? how long is a piece of string??

My sidekick will just die or barely run it died


last year, OBD1 car (dumbb ECU)
no scan tools for it
if you run on the road with that hack , and wreck
expect a nice fire. fuel fire.
if you used a voltmeter and say 12vdc there, all hotwiring stuff
need not be done. (
it stalled (misfire)
and then would not what? start but cranks ok?

3sp ,4sp auto or 5speed stick
16v engine or 8v, both are G16s but EFI radially different.
16v is MPI with 4 injectors, 8v is 1 injector TBI
try a new
cap,.rotor spark wires and spark plugs yet?
cant burn fuel with bad spark
i guess the cam bent did not slip as it run ok later, but is 60,000 mile belt. and will slip ignored.

next time it stalls
check headlamps they work, and all electric
then see if CEL glows key on, i must or ECU lost power
it has 3 fuse that can rust, IG coil, FI, and DOME.
the CEL must glow, is first checks.

Check the spark plug wires. The best time to do this is at night. You can see if the wires are sparking after the engine heats up. The wires have carbon centers that often break down after a few years and cracks in the outer covering allow the spark power to jump to any grounding place under the hood. Especially when the engine gets hot the plug wires expand allowing the electric to escape from the cracks rather than fire the plugs

I have problem with my Corvette C4 L98. Engine running bad but only sometimes maybe in cold and warm condition. Feels like running on 4 - 7 cylinders. All checks done as discribed in manual. No failures in...


I would check out a) all vacuum pipes from your intake manifold for cracks etc. b) fuel pressure regulator (FPR) valve and your ignition coil. The function of these last two is not overseen by the engine ECU and if they are not behaving then you are the best diagnostic. Any small air leak into a vacuum pipe will compromise the intake manifold pressure management and the car will run roughy. The FPR is a small metal circular device and sits on the fuel rail; it has a vacuum pipe attached to it. Sometimes if the FPR is failing there smell of fuel from the vacuum arm when disconnecting the small diameter vacuum pipe. If the FPR leaks it makes the engine run richer than it should and the consequence is the ECU then alters the engine management to cope. This can lead to non-fire events and occasionally miss-fire as the engine goes from rich to lean and back again: basically mirroring the same events as with the cracked vacuum piping (above). Finally check that you are getting a good consistent spark on all plugs. Now check the resistance of each spark plug lead, they should all have high resistance but anything that looks extreme, compared to the rest, should be replaced. Remove the coil and give it a really good inspection, check for any cracks or obvious signs of shorts. Sometimes an intermittent short in the low tension coil side is really hard to detect but it will give rise to non-fire events. I keep stressing 'non-fire events' (or failure to fire) as miss-fire (out of time firing)) is often detected by the knock sensor etc.

I have changed the engine and there is no fire. Tried changed the distributor and the crank engine sensor but still no fire The starter is turning the engine over but when i take a look at the spark plugs...


I have heard of these horror stories about cutting the wires on the ecu and splicing them back together to get the new engine running. We just did a motor and thought we were going to have to do that but the thing fired right up and ran perfect. We couldn't believe it. Anyway, I would try the ignitor, check the fuses, check the oil? Check the immobilizer? How about the ?? There has to be something you are overlooking. Did you get a new ecu with the new motor? Is everything hooked back up? No wires left disconnected? Hope this helps.

it may be the ecu playing you up,,, but a new set of HT leads and spark plugs wont hurt and 110k is just run in for this bike, also try putting some fule injector cleaner in the tank to clean out the fule lines

Miss firing engine and black spark plug


Is it a two stroke machine , do you mix your own fuel.

If so over dosing on the oil component will cause your problem, check for the right mix levels and follow them.

Is the choke going full back to zero ?

Are you running the right type pf plug for that engine, some run hot some dont

Is the engine running smooth or lumpy.

Your engine may either be running very rich or there is wear on the bores causing oil to get to the electrode.

You can obtain a spark plug extender which takes the plug out of the direct line of fire
