I would get the rebuild kit from the dealer you can get this as an O.E.M replacement as a kit or you can save some money and order it aftermarket in a kit threw parts unlimited, tucker rocky, or cruiser street, which is great quality and cheaper. it sounds like the rubber o-ring's are warn out, and thats letting the fluid leak, both kits come with the o-rings,piston, the spacer, and the snap-ring. Also you can request the dealer to print off you a "exploded view" of the slave cylinder to help replace all of the parts yourself.

the main leak will at the slave cylinder past the piston cup
if the slave cylinder is out side the bell housing the simply replace it with new one and bleed out the air
if the slave cylinder is inside the bell housing then unfortunately the gear box has to come out to fit the new slave cylinder

The clutch hydraulic system has a problem-either the clutch master cylinder or the slave cylinder on the bell housing may be at fault.

If the brake fluid is low in the clutch master cylinder reservoir, there may be a leak to the outside. Refill and check for leaks while someone pumps the clutch pedal. Check around the clutch master cylinder (also under the dash- if wet there around the top of the clutch pedal or if wet on the carpet below the pedal, the master cylinder is leaking.) Check the single line from the clutch master to the bell housing where the slave cylinder is. If no leaks found, likely the clutch master cylinder or the slave cylinder has failed internally.

Is it safe: there won't be any further damage caused by running it, but if shifting gets harder and harder to do, that may cause a driveability problem.

2000 hyundai elantra leaking clutch fluid, when low or empty lose clutch, then refill clutch works fine, leaking under car

The clutch hydraulic system is very simple, just 3 pieces. There is the clutch master cylinder with attached fluid reservoir-mounted on the firewall, there is a steel line from the master going down to the transaxle bell housing, and there is the clutch slave cylinder on the bell housing that the steel line connects to.
If yours is leaking under the car, it is probably the slave cylinder, either that or the steel line. Either one should be easy to replace.

Hello buiskit: My name is Roger and I will help you. If the fluid runs down the firewall or leaks down on the floor board or on your foot. The problem should be the clutch master cylinder. However should the fluid leak at the bell housing area. Then the problem is the slave cylinder. To replace the slave cylinder you will need to pull the transmission in order to replace the slave cylinder. Should you need further help please just ask. Please rate the answer. Thank You for using Fix Ya. Roger

Yes, hydraulic--check again--fender side of brake master. Slave is usual cause of leak that eventually causes master reservoir to go dry and start drawing air. Check slave for leak. If leaking, replace slave and bleed system. Make sure to bench-bleed slave before installation by opening bleeder and pouring fluid into line port.

  1. Raise and support the front end on jackstands.
  2. Back off the flare nut on the fluid pipe to free the slave cylinder hose.
  3. Pull off the hose-to-bracket retaining clip and pull the hose from the bracket. Cap the pipe to prevent fluid loss.
  4. Unbolt and remove the slave cylinder.
  5. Installation is the reverse of removal. Tighten the bolt to 12-17 ft. lbs. (16-23 Nm).

Having problems with the clutch in my 1998 Ford Ranger. There is no freeplay, and it is very difficult to shift. Do I need to adjust the clutch? If so, how do I adjust it?

The clutch is not adjustable,it is a fluid clutch. It has to be a leak,or the slave cylinder, and,or, the master cylinder are bad,It does not have to be leaking to be bad,but it is one of the two.Rate please, thank you.

Leaking clutch fluid Where is the slave cylinder"..I have been told to look at the slave cylinder because I do not see fluid under the car.

Slave cylinder should be on the left side of the bellhousing (follow the line from the clutch master if necessary) If you don't see fluid but you have lost some, also check where the rod from the pedal goes through the firewall to the master...they often leak there and will not drip on the ground.
