but on centre stand. slacken wheel spindle by taking split pin out of the castle nut. then adjust the cams or adjusters on both sides the same amount, theirs marks on them. oneway slackens the chain the other way tightens. plus leave a bit of play about 20mm. then spin wheel to make sure it runs straight, then tighten spindle nut and put split pin back in, and bend pin ends over nut

  1. Place your Rex a center stand or rack.
  2. Referring to the Owner's Manual, inspect the chain and sprocket for wear. Replace if necessary.
(Whenever replacing a bike chain, you should really replace both sprockets at the same time, too.)
  1. On both sides of the bike, loosen the large vertically-mounted hex bolts at the very top back of the swingarm.
  2. Noting the alignments marks on each side, place an even larger hex wrench into the side of the circular aluminum insert that's surrounding the axle.
  3. Use the wrench to adjust the chain to about 0.9" (~23MM).
  4. Make sure both side's alignment marks exactly match each other.
  5. Tighten the swingarm bolts down, but not all the way.
  6. Spin the tire around while constantly stopping to check the chain slack. If it's even all the way around, tighten the swingarm bolts all the way. You're done! If not, go to Step 7.
  7. If the chain slack runs uneven around the clock, re-check the alignment marks and re-adjust as needed.
  8. Re-perform steps 3 thru 7 until the chain properly adjusts. Give up after four failures.
  9. If unable to properly adjust, you might need to perform a "string alignment'. Google that, if necessary. It's too complex to put in here.
  10. ALWAYS make sure your Rex's chain is kept clean, and sparingly use a high-quality chain wax every 500 miles or so.

What could cause clicking in motor 91 gsxr 1100 no power loss

Could be a couple of things, Also im not familiar with the gsxr engine but with my zxr iv had the motor clicking either when the cam chain has stretched a bit but not enough for the adjuster to take up the slack or when the valve clearances have needed adjustment, if one of the exhaust stud's has come loose can cause a noise but would probably make more of a knocking than clicking, Might be worth checking the manual to see what the service intervals are on the cam chain and valve clearances for that motor.

My cam chain is rattley how do i tighten it ive a 89 zxr 400

There is a cam chain tensioner on the ZXR 400. It sounds like you need a new cam chain.

Important Note: The cam cahin tensioner is held on by the two bolts that hold the clutch cable bracket underneath the timing cover. Never loosen these bolt and re tighten them. If you need to undo them, remove the cam chain tensioner and reset it.

Cam chain noise on a CBR1100 from 1998 Can this be ajust ? if so where is the bracket on the engine

Cam chain normally must be replaced, but sometimes cam chain tensioner may have some space to put more tension to tighten the cam chain. If you know how to access it then go for it. Good advise?

Hi,

Page 12 picture 2 shows how to tighten the chan .. fairly basic in that you loosten the bar with a spanner and slide it forward to tighten as necessary. Unfortunately the manual is not English, but the pictures should be clear enough

If this helps pls leave feedback, if not let me know and I'll try and help some more!

Need to tighten the timing chain

It has an automatic cam chain tensioner. If you are getting cam chain rattle, I would look at worn guides/chain.

Won't start

Check for starter motor.
Check for starting switch (maybe rusty)
Check for the starting circuit (tighten the contacts... but not too tight)
Check for the fuse. Specially the main fuse. Starter fuse.

Chain

Put it up on your stand lossen the axel and remove the bolt on the bottom of the shock. Then tighten your chain and lift your swingarm up until its horizontal with the ground, then the chain should have almost no play. Not completely tight, but almost no play. Tighten the axel, and the bolt on the shock, and your set,,,
