Question about 1990 Suzuki GSX 750 F (Katana)

1 Answer

Drives great but at/when drops to idle it stalls

I got a 1990 Suzuki GSX750F Katana, the problem is that when I pull the choke out and start it up it will idle, now if I take right off it rides great, but when I come to a stop or hold the clutch long enough to drop rpm's to idle it stalls out, or even when first started if I touch the throttle without moving it stalls when idled again. I can only get it started if I spray some starting fluid in the carbs. I do know the bike sit for a good while but started every now and again, I had the carbs professionally rebuilt, the bike has a stage 3 jet kit. I drives and rides great, any help would be great.

When you are on the bike and riding do you still have the choke out? And stop spraying starter fluid into the carbs..bad bad bad.... bikes start with out that stuff and if you need it then something is wrong.. your gonna mess something up doing that....let me know about the choke and we will go from there...cj_monaco@hotmail.com

Hi, Evan and the usual suspects are:
1. Severely discharged or a damaged battery must have 12.5 volts or more and be able to pass a proper "LOAD" test if necessary, you may have a preliminary reading of 12.5 volts or more but little or zero amperage the battery is faulty and must be replaced, AGM batteries fail in this scenario more so than lead acid batteries.
2. Faulty alternator/generator and or voltage regulator.
3. Loose or corroded battery terminals and or cables especially the "NEGATIVE" cable, look for loose, corroded, or broken connectors inside the cable harness at "BOTH" ends.
4. Faulty main circuit breaker or ignition switch, check for loose connections and continuity.
5. Faulty system and or ignition relay, check for continuity.
6. Faulty ignition coil, ignition/electronic module.
7. Faulty CKP, CPS, CMP, MAP, TPS, or BAS sensor, corroded, loose or broken wire connector pins/sockets.
8. Throttle cables and or idle speed improperly adjusted hot idle speed should be 950 RPM to 1000 RPM.
9. Faulty neutral, side stand or clutch lever safety switch.
10. Fuel tank empty
11. Fuel tank contaminated with ethanol sludge.
12. Water or dirt in the fuel system, or clogged filter.
13. Restricted, blocked or kinked fuel line.
14. Faulty fuel pump.
15. Faulty pressure regulator.
16. Faulty or clogged fuel injectors.
17. Lean angle switch is faulty or needs adjustment.

My 2005 Katana is stalling left and right

Has the bike been sitting for any time longer than 4 days? 4 days is enough to clog idle jets. Cleaning the carbs if it has carbs, is the first defense against idle to low rpm stalls. Pull the carbs and clean them out. Definitley will help you out.

It still sounds like it still running rich. If it doesn't have any performance mods like aftermarket exhaust it wont like the stage 3 kit. The stage 3 kit should be install if it has high performance exhaust and k&n pods instead of an airbox and filter. Or the floats may be stuck or improperly adjusted.

Idle issues can be fuel/air (mixture ratio) or igition (spark strength). It sounds like an air restriction issue. If there is no blockage throught the air inake/filter, make sure you adjust the jets to specifications and make sure there are no float issues with the carbs.

Have an 06 Suzuki Katana 750. when I start it with full choke it runs fine, then when I go to ride (choke off) it has a low idle and stalls out. I have to go full choke for it to warm up for over 30 min....

Not for sure but u might try to re jet the bike.i own a 98 suzuki bandit 600s and it also is really cold hearted. those bikes are unfortunately known for that problem.not that it was much help but u might try contacting Dales Holeshot Performance he specializes those types of bikes he also sells the jet kits.
i would also try to adjust the idle slightly higher hope this at least helps

Stalling out

u have the mixture screw wound in to far. its normally located on the bottom of the carb. try winding it out half a turn at a time once the bike has warmed up. also turn the idle screw out a quarter of a turn at the time its in to far thats why it idles at low revs. the choke is needed to keep the air fuel mixture right thats why u are having to leave it on for so long. hope this helps.
