I think there are two possible causes here:-

1.(Easy) your starter-button is permanently contacting, split the right-hand switchgear on the bars to check and clean.

2. (Git) The starter circuit relay(Not the starter-relay) in the junction box is knackered causing the circuit to be live as soon as ignition is switched on.
This will be located under the seat or behind a side panel. The whole assembly will have to be replaced probably.

Hope it's the button.

Sounds like the stater switch is stuck or you have a fulty starter relay you eed to find the relay unplug the small two wire that go to it then turn your key on if it still starts then the relayis faulty if it does not start then the fault should be the starter switch

The starter motor continues to run when the car is running on a 1999 Buick century

The Starter motor can keep running because of a number of things. It receives its power from the large contacts (switch) in the starter solenoid. WHen engaged, this starter sol. allows high current 12 volts to run the starter motor.
A number of things can cause the starter solenoid to stay engaged:
A) stuck starter solenoid mechanicals. probably not the cause
B) more likely a defective start position on the ignition switch in the ignition switch
C) possibly a gummed up ignition key tumbler
I would start troubleshooting with a schematic. Make your own or purchase a service manual. IF you pull off the wire from the switch (in the center console) which actuates the starter solenoid, and the starter motor continues to run, then its not the switch or the key tumbler. its the solenoid.
Troubleshooting is the logical process of elimination.

My start switch is not working when i go to start my bike on n off switch is working the headlight comes on and u can hear the bike reset n when u go to push start button nothing happens

Hi Anonymous, check the continuity of your starter button. and the usual suspects are:
1.Ignition/Light Key Switch not in IGNITION position.
2.Engine Stop switch in the OFF position.
3.Discharged battery, loose or corroded connections check negative cable at both ends. (solenoid chatters).
4. Bank Angle Sensor tripped and Ignition/Light Key Switch not cycled to Off and then back to
5. Starter control circuit, relay or solenoid faulty.
6. Electric starter shaft pinion gear not engaging or over-running clutch slipping.

Hi, I have a Yamaha xtz 660 1998 model, the problem is that the starter is continously engaged as in starting as soon as the battery is connected! - even without the ignition on, is there an easy solution...

Your ignition switch or starter button is stuck! Or the starter return spring is broken. I would look at the start switch to start with, sounds like it is stuck in the start position.

Starter stuck on

starter button is stuck possibly on the inside or the solenoid contacts are bonded together inside. you can take a continuity test between the posts.

Starting fault

There are two safety switches that you may need to test. 1) Neutral safety switch- this switch is what tells the bike that it's in neutral and allows the starter to engage. 2) Kickstand safety switch- this switch will not allow the bike to run in gear if the kickstand is down. My initial guess is the neutral safety switch. If the neutral safety switch is bad, then you will not be able to start the bike with the kickstand down because the bike thinks that it's in gear (even if in neutral). This also may explain why the initial intermitent problem of not starting when warm since the metal contacts will expand and possibly not make contact when warmed up. Are you trying to start the bike with the kickstand up or down? If it were the kickstand safety switch, the bike would probably start okay and then die when you put it in gear.

1999 Toyota Corolla CE. For about 2 months, the engine does not start immediately. I need to turn the ignition key several times until it starts. Each time when I turn the key, a clicking sound happens...

it sounds like either your having a short at the starter or the ignition switch is bad, I am leaning towards the issue being the starter, usually when the ignition switch is going bad there will be no click,

As soon as I turn the key to the on position, the engine turns over

The problem is either in the mechanism that pushes the rod that activates the ignition switch from the key lock cylinder, or the ignition switch is defective.
