Intermittently, while using my Ryobi C4620 chainsaw, it will decide to idle at a very high speed, almost at normal cutting speed. Adjusting the idle-setting screw does not affect the problem, because the part that should be touching that screw is not even close to it. It appears that whatever spring or device is supposed to return the throttle valve to the idle position does not have enough force to overcome the associated friction. I've tried lubricating the moving parts of the throttle linkage, but to no avail. Is this perhaps a common problem with the C4620, -possibly a design problem? Thanks!!
I had this same thing . Its in the throttle cable tube. take the cable away from the carb. cut about 1/4 in of the tube around the cable off reattach to carb it works for me!
Cutting the cable shrowd is the only real fix. After break-in period I surmised the cable shrowd expands from heat & oil. 1\4" is too much. Remember you can't glue it back on. This is cheapo polymer shrowd with no inner wire shielding. The idle screw is not infinite, & actually very limited ie: if you cut too much off the idle screw will not increase rpm enough to idle.

hi leobowdy
disassembly the carb and carefully clean it.Check the air filter, the fuel line and fuel filter, check the needle, lever, small spring and the screen filter from the carb.Check the sparkplug.
high speed H=2 turns,low speed L=2 1/2 turns,adjust T
When chain saw starts adjust H,L and T accordingly.

SOURCE: Chokes and Dies when cutting
Adjust the choke or carburetor. In case your chainsaw stalls when the engine is idling, ensure that the choke is set properly. To do so, first try releasing it to adjust it, and then move the plate and tighten all screws once again. To loosen any grit, spray carburetor cleaner spray on the choke's shaft. The carburetor may also need to be adjusted; consult your owner's manual which will guide you on resetting the idle mix screw.
