SOURCE: Gas Trimmer will not stay started

Many times with a gas mix, after sitting for a while, the mix separates and gums up the carb. Taking the carb off and soaking it overnight in a parts or carb cleaner and running carb cleaner through the tank and gas lines will cure this.

SOURCE: I have a Coleman 1850 that only seems to run

A fuel starvation problem.
Pull the fuel line off the carb..........the flow should be strong from the tank.
If not check for a blocked filter or fuel switch not allowing full flow.
If you do have a good fuel flow.......the restriction is in the carb.......a good cleaning will be next.
Usually it is the main jet that is semi clogged from storing the engine with out shutting off the fuel and running the carb dry.
After cleaning make sure all fuel in the tank is fresh.

SOURCE: Have a 05 650cc Suzuki

First get the carbs and jet cleaned and then check. As you mentioned, that choke has to be pulled out, then only it runs smooth, other wise its backfires and runs rough,.This indicates towards low fuel issue, the dirty carb and jets..There can be a vacuum leak issue. Make sure that there are no blockages in the gas tank, petcock, fuel filter, fuel lines, or carburetor. You may even want to clean your carbs again and pay close attention to fuel passages and float valves. Then check for vacuum leaks. The most likely place is the carb boots going to the inlet area of the motor. The intake manifolds may be dry rotted. This needs to be checked.------------ this will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Farmall Super A, rebuilt carburator, cleaned tank and lines but will not run smoothly unless choke is pulled out at least 3/4. Any suggestions?

You have an obstruction in the main jet circuit of your carburetor. That is why you need to choke it - give it gas.

99 vulcon 800 only runs with choke pulled out... why

Your mixture may be too lean (too much air, not enough fuel). When you put the choke on it "chokes" the amount air in the mixture and enriches the fuel ratio. If you can find the air/fuel mixture screw on the carb (I have no idea if there is an adjustable one or where it is on your model, sorry) then screw it in gently until it seats softly counting how many turns to seat it. Write this number down, do not rely on memory and at least you then have the original setting to get it running even though you need choke. DO NOT OVER TIGHTEN and then back it out about about 1 and a half turns and then start the engine. If it runs without the choke you will be near the setting required. If it doesn't run then try another half turn out and retry. No, then turn it back to the one and a half and turn it half a turn inwards. Still nothing, then soft seat again and turn out two and a half and try again. Once you get it running fairly smoothly, then it is just a case of fine tuning it only this time with the engine running. Just screw it in and out as required, listening to the engine speed and once it is idling at its' fastest, that should be the optimum setting. Easy job really, just a matter of finding where the screw is. I cant stress highly enough though about the soft seating of the screw. Too tightly seated will damage the screws face so just turn gently until you feel resistance and don't force it.
Hope that is of some help.

How to start the generator

Hi Joe, I had asked for a little clarification and have not received any information. I will answer this question based on the generator is in good working order and it is a recoil start. Open the petcock, (this is the fuel valve) and give it about a minute to fill the fuel bowl on the carburetor. If your generator has an engine an on/off kill switch, set to on. If the generator has an auto idle switch set it to off. If the engine has a throttle lever located under the carburetor, push it all the way down (full throttle). Pull the choke knob out completely, there is a detent on the choke for half choke, pull it past this for full choke. pull the recoil starter rapidly. As soon as the engine starts running push the choke knob to half choke, this will allow the engine to run smooth while it's warming up. Depending on the climate that you are in, warm up time will vary. After a minute or two in cold climates start pushing the choke knob in, if it starts to run poorly pull it back out too the half position and let it warm up some more. When you can posh the choke in without the engine faltering it is ready to go. In warmer climates you might be able to start the engine without the choke or in the halfway position. Robin Subaru makes some of the finest small engines available. I would choose a Robin over a Honda every time. I hope this gets your generator going, and once again this is based on the generator being in good working order. Good luck, Michael Burke.

Cant remember how to start my g100 wacker. Can pull the starter cord but forget where the little knobs need to be turned to

I am not familiar with your model but general rules are as follows. 1 - make sure that the gas'oil mixture is the right ratio and that the fuel is not stale. 2 - Depress the little rubber primer bulb 4-6 times, or until yor see little bubbles through the bulb. 3 - Rotate the choke lever to Full and pull the starter cord until the engine tries to start. 4 - Rotate the chole lever to Half and pull the starter cord until the engine starts.5 - After the engine warms up, rotate the choke lever to Run or Open so that the engine runs smoothly.

10HP Subaru/Robin gas on generator engine only runs smooth with choke half on, what can cause this? also the extra jet on the outside of carb what does it do?

Not sure about the "extra jet" on te side of the carb without a specific model, but running smoothly with half choke indicates that your mixture is lean. Choking it richens the mixture.

The extra jet may be your idle stop, or it could be the idle mixture adjustment.

How can you start a Ariens 824 snowblower

Ignition key on, throttle three quarters on, full choke, press primer 3 or 4 times, pull cord. Should cough, maybe start and run rough, then as it's chugging, turn choke to half, then quarter choke, let it warm up slightly, then choke off.
