Front forks leaking

Hello, It is not out of the ordinary to have the forks leaking on a 1982 bike. The forks should be rebuilt with new seals and bushings. It is about a four hour job to do this. One thing to pay close attention to is the inner or chrome portion of the fork. If rust pitts have developed on the inner tube the rebuild will not last. Each time the fork goes up and down over the rust pitts, it tears the seal.
There are special tools required to rebuild the forks so they should be rebuilt by a qualified technician.

Thanks and I hope that this helps,
Steve

If your engine has a rod knock the engine has to be rebuilt or replaced rebuilt is about $2000 to $3000 dollars and a new motor even more.It is unusal for a rod to be out around 60,000 miles unless it was ran real hard or run out of oil or way low on oil.

The engine is making a loud noise towards the bottom of the crankcase. but when i raise the throttle it goes away

check engine oil pressure first .how is the oil pressure? is it low ?
when you raise the engine speed and bring it down to idle fast ---do you hear the noise? Do not do that at high speed and only once or twice or may do more damage to the engine. If you hear the noise ---"knocking" ---than it sounds like a loose connecting rod bearing ----means you need your engine rebuilt or replaced.

Distinct front fork knocking

Put the bike on a stand and grasp the forks at the bottom and push in / out to see if there is any play also check pads in the caliper and brake hose knocking against fork leg etc. if you dont have a stand (or a milk crate) you can sometimes feel play by rocking the bike back and forwards with the front brake applied. Other things to check are that the front tyre pressure isnt too hard .. and I would suggest you bleed the air out of the forks via the top philips screw ,
