SOURCE: 2007 harley davidson xl sportster 883 speedometer

If you're lucky it might be the speed sensor located in the gearbox casing. This is a hall effect device and is magnetic and so can pick up metal fragments from the inside of the gearbox. I have a 2001 Sportster and the Sensor is located on the top of the gearbox casing, just below the starter. I'd expect it to be in a similar position on a later bike such as yours, but I can't be sure. Once you've located it, take it out (can be a bit fiddly) and make sure that its clear of any debris. If not the sensor, you're probably going to need to substitute in a working speedo. Be careful because a pre-2004 speedo is electronic, but is not compatible with 2007 bike. Best of luck!

Rear rocker box leak on 2004 sportster XL 1200 C

It's possible one of the gaskets got pinched, or one of the cover pieces is warped. Either way, it's gonna have to come apart again to fix it.

Replace rear rocker box gasket on 2001 1200 sportster

Replacing the silicone gaskets between the rocker box cover is not that difficult. Simply take the bolts out and lift the cover off, replace the gasket, put the cover back on with the bolts loose and line them up correctly. Then tighten the bolts to about 80 - 100 inch pounds of torque.

If the leak is coming from below the lower rocker plate where it mates with the head, this is a bit more difficult and I'd suggest taking the bike to a repair shop. However, if you'ver mechanically inclined and have the tools, even that is a job that can be done by an amateur mechanic. If this is the case, please ro-post and I'll tell you step by step what you need to do to replace the gaskets beneath the lower rocker plate.

Good Luck

Rear rocker cover gasket is leaking

No problem except that the a couple of the bolts that hold the rocker cover on are pretty close quarters. Simply take the four bolts out and replace the gaskets. Make sure that you get the middle and top part properly aligned before tightening up the bolts. Torque is 100 inch pounds.

Good Luck

I am planning to take the cylinder covers off a harley 1200 and replace with new gaskits. is there anything i need to know other than taking off the 4 head cover bolts and removing and replacing after...

No, that's just about it. Replace the breather valves in the rocker boxes while you have them off. They're just rubber parts very similar to the valve covers. They vary depending on year model. Torque the four 1/4" bolts to 100 inch pounds. Do not loosen or tighten the head bolts.

Good Luck
