Question about 2004 Honda VT 750 Shadow Aero

Wont run right

I start it with the choke on and it starts fine. I push the choke off and after a minute it starts to bog when I hit the gas and won't idle right.when it gets hot it won't stay running without choke on then backfires and won't stay running. When I first got it I got stuck on the side of the road twice and wouldn't start till it was cold. Then it would get down the road a mile or two and die again. Now it seems to just not want to stay running.

Pull out the plugs and clean them , carry a spare set of plugs , always use good gas ,if you have this problem get better grade octane gas , sunaco 92 is the best cost a little more but worth it , some motors will only run good on this gas , as stated above if you bike sits for a long time , shut gas off and let the bike run out of gas as to clean the carb out ,

Follow the cable from the start to finish it might have been bent or damaged. then have a look at the carbs they might have been damaged in the two accidents if the mix is wrong or they are letting in air

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, a few possibilities you may want to check/explore:

  • stale gasoline;
  • clogged fuel filter (inside the tank above the fuel shutoff valve;
  • clogged, bocked, varnished, gummed carbs, jets, air pin holes;
  • stuffed air filter/box;
  • vacuum leak (rubber coupling, manifold side);
  • air leak (airbox base assembly seated/fitted on the carbs.
Basically, a general cleanup of the fuel lines, tank and the carbs. Sitting for some time tends to leave varnish like coating on most parts.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

SOURCE: 98 CBR F3 doesn't stay running w/o choke on

There seems to be fuel starvation to the carbs.
Check the fuel filter and the petcock, not bad too to clean the carb/s.

SOURCE: J.D snowmobile 340 73 carb wont idle appears internally clean.

my guess is that its not the carb at all but it might be the gas line in side the tank is cloged to the point whare you need to have it on choke in order to pull enough gas to the carb which would be the reason for it not wanting to come back down to idle quickly or it could be the fuel pump is cloged and if you tried that already than the fuel adjustment is way off and will need to be adjusted while a friend or family is keepin it running

and if that is not the problem than email me.
good luck:)

Friend,
It seems that your bike if having fuel problem. The fuel pump may be getting hot and not supplying enough fuel. Or the HT coil may be getting hot and not giving enough current to the spark plugs. You have to rule out both these points. The "choke keeps it running" phenomenon means that it is not getting enough fuel. So concentrate on the fuel pump. Also clean up the air and petrol jets in the carb.the petrol jet may be blocked.

SOURCE: 2006 Honda 750cc Shadow Aero starts with choke, runs for a minute, sputters and stalls. Won't start again for a couple of days, then starts right up. Electrical?

Hi there
I once had a wee car,whenever it got too much petrol inside itself it refused to go anywhere and had to rest for some time and you had to be very careful with the choke and the petrol so it did not swallow too much of it and need another rest.

Runs first 30+ sec then bogs out/dies when throttle pressed

If still under warranty have it serviced (authorized dealer not Joe's lawn mower). There should not be a fee (paid by Husqvarna). There have been carburetor problems. If you adjust it your warranty will likely be void; Joe's small engine service just as likely to void any warranty. Are you using a fresh 40:1 fuel oil mix. The will not start with choke set is normal. Start procedure in your OM says listen for sputter and disengage choke. Almost all new saws have similar start procedure.
Start Procedure
Cold:
  1. Ignition on/off to on.
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release.
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws); pull starter and listen for an attempt to start. once heard (usually two pulls; no more than 4).
  4. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release.
  5. Push (open) choke pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull).
Warm:
  1. Ignition on/off to on.
  2. Set compression release – optional step even if saw is equipped with a compression release.
  3. Pull (close) choke, set fast idle (done when choke closed on some saws) – Do not pull with choke closed.
  4. Push (open) choke, pull starter until it starts. (usually first pull).
If you have more questions or need additional help please reply below and I will get back to you. HTH & Good Luck.
