I have a 1200 sportster 1200 carborated evo and the speedo quit working . Do I need to replace the ecm or is there a fuse for it????

Hi Anonymous, try cleaning your speed sensor located on top of the transmissions right side between the top cover and the chrome starter end cap on Twin Cams and on top of the engine case between the rear cylinder and the starter motor for Sportsters. Remove the the bolt that secures the sensor and pull it out of the transmission. Inspect sensor for obvious damage and repace if necessary. If sensor has no damage then wipe clean any obvious contamination like micro fiberous material with a clean rag and reinstall, torque bolt to 8 ft lbs. I have a 1200 sportster i have no power to my odometer the lights on it dont work its not showing the milage and the fuses have been replaced what should i do?

It could be the vehicle speed sensor, the ECM or the TSM/TSSM.

The vehicle speed sensor (VSS) is powered and monitored
by the Electronic Control Module (ECM). The ECM processes
the vehicle speed signal and transmits this signal to the turn
signal module/turn signal security module (TSM/TSSM) and
speedometer through serial data.
NOTE
The vehicle speed sensor cannot be repaired. Replace the
unit if it fails.

How do i change speed sensor on my harley 1200 sportster

I am pretty certain the engine on your bike is the same as is on my Buell Cyclone M2.
The sensor is located at the top of the gearbox, (off side) and is fixed with a single bolt. Remove the bolt and lift the sensor out.
When you replace it, leave some slack in the cable to avoid the cable breaking again. It is plugged in to the main loom, just follow the wire.
Hope this helps and ride safe.

1. Check the resistance of the rear wheel speed sensor. It should be 1200-2500 ohms.

2. If OK, check the wiring between the rear wheel speed sensor and the Controller Anti-lock Brakes (CAB

sometimes this sensor is on the rear of the transmission or the rear differential.
