Question about 2002 Honda VT 750 CD Shadow A.C.E. Deluxe

1 Answer

If the petcock is bad , will this cause the gas to run out the carburator vent line while it is running?

If the petcock is bad will this cause the vent hose to run gas while the bike is running? also the vent hose will not leak fuel if the petcock is on reserve. Runs then but will not take throtttle.

It's just a stuck float valve on one of your carbs. They need a bench clean. And get the cables routed exactly the same way as they were.

Shuts down at high speed.65mph and higher. Acts like it runs out of gas.

Maybe it is (sort of) running out of gas. Check no blockages to fuel tank breather that causes a vacuum in the tank and holds back the fuel flow, check the fuel filter, look for kinked lines etc. Fuel can be getting through, but just enough to idle or run slowly. Put the engine under load by riding faster and consequently increase the amount of fuel needed to run the engine faster and the "fuel starvation" effect is highlighted.
There are other possible causes of course, but the above checks don't cost anything.

Not getting fuel to engine but runs if fuel is pour into cylinders

Hi Anonymous, and the usual suspects are:
1. No fuel in gas tank.
2. Fuel valve not switched to on or reserve.
3. Fuel cap not venting properly.
4. Fuel filter clogged.
5. Vacuum line broken, cracked or not connected to petcock or intake manifold.
6. Fuel valve diaphram faulty.
7. Fuel line to carburator blocked or kinked.
8. Float valve needle stuck to seat.
Good luck.

Motor runs fine thru 1-4 but in fifth gear when you run up to 80 or 85 mph the motor seems to vapor lock and start cutting out. most of the time you can loosen the gas cap and it will clear up until you...

Have you tried a new gas cap? Sometimes the vent in the cap gets plugged and then the tank can't vent. Borrow one from one of your friends and try it before you buy one, they ain't cheap like they used to be.

You could also have a bad fuel petcock if the bike is equipped with a carburetor. Harley went to a vacuum operated fuel petcock in 1996 and they give problems. The vacuum diaphragm gets a small hole in it and the vacuum cannot hold it fully open. The resulting poor fuel flow could be causing your problem. You can remove the petcock from the tank, disassemble it, and replace the diaphragm.

Your issue is probably bad fuel petcock diaphragms. The fuel is by passing the float needles and running through the vacuum lines into the intake manifolds.

Do all three gas lines from carb connect together and lead to gas tank

2 lines are vent lines, make sure they are unpluged , and clear. the other is the fuel line that runs to the petcock, and one from the petcock to the front of the carb near center of motor, this is a vaccuum line witch allows the petcock to open , and let fuel flow in the off position from tank to carb. hope this helps

Could be a fuel line restriction, bad petcock, problem with the vacuum line to the petcock if this is a carburated engine. Could be something as simple as a bad gas cap. Try loosening the gas cap just a bit and ride to see if does it then. Loosen the right side tank cap.

If it's fuel infected, I'm sorry but I can't help you.
