Hi, Anonymous for this situation I would call my local dealer or reputable shop's service/parts department and inquire about any possible quick fix, answers, or parts inquiry. If necessary, transport your bike to the dealer or shop and have a professional technician take it for a test drive, if it is in running condition, and give you a written estimate of repairs and answer any specific questions you may have about your problem. For more information about your issue and valuable free downloads that you will need please visit the websites below. Good luck and have a nice day.

SOURCE: ducati starter motor
I have 2 monsters in my barn right now, the starter motor is, well is not the easiest. First, is it the starter gone bad or the relay? Check the fuse. Then check the relay, bottom right of the air filter housing, rubber mounted, make sure it cliks when the key is on and the starter button is hit, then check the battery, make sure it is good, then if all this checks out, check the wiring. If it is still a bad starter, remove the crank case cover on the left, rotate the starter gear to align the bolt, unscrew the 3 bolts, and replace the gasket when putting in the new starter. Don't forget to take the battery negative off, and wire on the starter motor. Good luck.

Here is a parts manual which will be of some use... http://www.carlsalter.com/download.asp?fileid=068117099097116105095077055053048032068097114107032080097114116115032050048048048046112100102
You will need....
10mm allen socket - For the oil drain plug. You can take the plug out with an allen wrench (hex key) but you'll need the socket to properly torque it back into place.
21mm socket - To remove the oils screen. Again, a wrench would work here, but you'll need to torque it later anyway.
Some kind of filter wrench - This will depend on your bike and the filter to be removed. (We'll look into the details later)
A container to drain the oil into - I use one of the flat oil change containers with the wide, flat funnel that screws into the side.
Oil - About 4 quarts. This varies a bit by model and displacement, but 4 quarts should be the max.
Oil drain plug crush washer
Oil screen crush washer - A Ducati dealership once tried to convince me that these were the same. It made me think that they had never changed the oil before either...
Tech sheet... http://www.ducati.com/bikes/tech.jhtml
And the manual is here...
Hope this proves useful..if so please rate me.

The torque spec for a chutch nut on a 900 is 180-190Nm (136 ft. lb.) The torque spec for the clutch housing bolts (presure plate) is 30-34 Nm (23 ft. lb.)

Your fuel pump is vacuum operated, I would look for a crack in the rubber somewhere. Also, the side stand, the bike will start with it down, but will shut off the second you put it in gear. I have a 2002 S4.

Testimonial: "sidest. switch OK. Short wiring pump doesn't make it run! Emptied tank, found a loose part with o-ring seal on the bottom. Dealer tomorrow "
